A Rainforest Retreat
Relax at this gorgeous place with your friends & family (teens and older kids) to the sound of coqui frogs and rain. The guest rooms are huge, clean, and airy. Don't be surprised to see the occasional gecko (don't worry: They're friendly - and they eat insects!) Guests will have access to the bottom portion of the house only. This includes 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, full kitchen, dining room, and den. Feel free to roam around the enormous outdoor property but please remember this is our home too. Keaau, Hawaii, United States Rainforest Retreat is on a piece of land originally given/sold to Charles Furneaux by the Hawaiian Kingdom prior to annexation in 1898. The land was also home to an operational antherium farm in the late 1980's and 90's. Rainfall here is estimated at 130 inches per year, which makes for a lush and green environment. The surrounding area is used mostly for flower nurseries, vegetable farming, ranching and coffee plantations. Heading north toward Hilo, you will pass through the towns of Kurtistown and Kea'au. Kurtistown (1.7 miles away) hosts a general market, a convenience store, a gas station, and the post office, while, Kea'au (3.9 miles away) offers a large chain grocery store and a few other shopping and eating venues. Heading south toward Volcano's National Park, you will pass through Mountain View and Volcano. Mountain View (3.8 miles) is not only known for its views of Mauna Kea, it also is know for its abundant hiking and biking trails and its bakery. Volcano village (14 miles) sits on the slopes of Kilauea Volcano and is best known for its wine and art scene. This location offers plenty of parking for our guests. Most guests rent a car at the airport. Hawaii county offers bus service for the island as an option too. Feel free to use our laundry room during your visit.
