Perched amongst the tree tops on the slopes of Punchbowl crater, this newly-renovated historic mid-century home provides a peaceful respite after a day spent exploring the island. Old meets new when classic mid-century character is married with modern day finishes. Surrounded by lush mango and plumeria, this second story retreat gives treehouse vibes and surprising tranquility just steps from downtown. Enjoy cooling trade winds filtering through old school jalousie windows as you relax in one of two oversized rockers. Or, open the expansive folding doors and stretch out on the Indonesian day bed for a true indoor-outdoor experience. If you’re feeling a little warm or just enjoy cooler temperatures, the unit features two dual-zone mini-split air conditioning systems. Clean crisp sheets and comfy thick mattresses will greet you as you retire for some dreamy restful sleep. The two full bathrooms feature earthy stone shower floors with abundant high-pressure hot water. Plenty of fluffy towels, body wash and other toiletries are provided to meet your needs. The fully appointed kitchen is well-equipped to ensure carefree cooking with high quality cookware and “always sharp” Calphalon knives. Enjoy family meals with service for eight and plenty of seating around the dining room table. Driveway, laundry and walkways are shared. Entire second floor unit, entrance and balcony are private. This is a family home. Our parents sometimes occupy the separate unit downstairs and we live two houses down the street. When we are not around in person, you can easily reach us anytime by phone or text. We work very hard to maintain a nice environment for our neighbors, but we limit our interaction with our guests and respect their privacy, as well. High density, lively neighborhood of young professionals, college students, school-children, and the retired. The street is very busy during the day, but the neighborhood settles down to near total silence at night, with only the occasional interruptions from a loud moped or an ambulance. We love the close proximity to the great offerings of Honolulu. Less Than 2 Miles Away: Ala Moana Park, and we are walkable to Thomas Square, Straub Hospital, and The Blaisdell Center. The great shops and restaurants of SALT at Kaka’ako. About 2 Miles Away: Ala Moana Mall, Ward Center, Whole Foods, The Hawaii Convention Center, Kapiolani & Queens Medical Centers, Chinatown. We are a short bike ride to Waikiki Beach and Kapiolani Beach Park. The University of Hawaii at Manoa, Kaimuki, Manoa Falls, Tantalus Lookout, Pearl Harbor, the Airport, and Diamond Head are all within a 10 or 15 minute drive. Warning: VERY steep driveway. Despite the perception of Mainlanders, Hawaii is hilly!! This kind of driveway is common here on Oahu, and likely won’t faze anyone from San Francisco or Asheville. Please let us know if you need some help navigating. If we are home, we are happy to oblige. We strongly discourage renting low-riding long-wheel base vehicles like minivans, or low-profile vehicles with “ground effects” due to potential for scraping on the driveway. sometime minivans are okay if people are unloaded before entering the driveway. Most sedans, Jeeps and SUVs have been fine. Like most of Oahu, this is a very high density neighborhood. And, most people sleep with their windows open. There is no “outside” voice in Hawaii, just your “inside” voice. Please wave and say hello to our neighbors and respect their right to privacy, peace and quiet. Warning: VERY steep driveway.
