SETTING: Ours is an ideal setting for remote workers, foreign students, visiting professionals, military (we are close to the marine base) or folks on an extended vacation on Oahu, perhaps visiting family. Our large, custom home has a very private feel, with a large driveway, set at the end of a culdesac and looking down to the Bay. The house is set back from the street down a long driveway, enhancing the private feel you will enjoy. There is a designated parking space for your car but if you are uncomfortable with reversing out, there is also street parking. Your private entry to the apartment is through our side yard. DETAILS ABOUT THE SPACE: This spacious, fully furnished, freshly renovated, first floor apartment is perfect for 2 adults but could sleep up to 2 additional guests using the living room futon and a blow up mattress. (For more comfort, the apartment can be reconfigured to include an additional bedroom/office space for an additional cost.) It has a private ground level entrance from the back yard. The entry hall connects to a full bath with shower and a spacious bedroom (with new queen, memory foam bed, air conditioner, new wood blinds, new vinyl plank floors and large closet). The bedroom looks onto a charming semi-private yard with a java plum tree and free laundry machines (shared with our other guest apartment.) Across from the bathroom, three steps up a small staircase, you'll find a large living space with hardwood floors, large picture windows and a lovely water view. This large room has the full kitchen and living/dining area. The apartment is tastefully decorated in a clean, modern style with playful touches of ocean art and shabby chic. (The optional small office/bedroom is on the same level as the main bedroom and has a new ceiling fan, high windows that connect with the living room and a small AC unit. Please inquire about availability and cost.) The apartment has a window air conditioner in the bedroom. (Please read details about regular, included use and accommodation for higher usage). Additionally, we get a nice breeze most days through the space since we are just 2 blocks from the water. The awning windows, oversized jalousies and lockable security screen door provide cross ventilation. Ceiling fans in the living room and bedroom also help keep the space comfortable. The apartment includes a fully equipped kitchen with new full-size smooth surface electric oven, new over range microwave, a not too small refrigerator, and Keurig coffeemaker; dining area with large pedestal table and 4 chairs; work desk with outlets and office chair; shared backyard, patio and grill; shared complimentary laundry machines in the backyard; streaming-ready LED TV; fast internet and a parking space, although street parking is also available. You'll find an assortment of games and books for idling away the hours when you're back from a hike or done with work. We also have boogie boards and snorkel gear for borrowing. The Bayview Suite Apartment is a private unit on the first floor of our home. Guests have full access to the apartment through a private back door entry accessed through a path along the side yard. You also have a designated off street parking space. While we respect your privacy, we are always available to help if you have a question. Text message is best. Kaneohe is one of the last bastions of laid back, island living on Oahu and unique in that it is still super convenient to everything. The mountains and ocean views are uncluttered by highrises and, unlike “town-side Honolulu”, traffic is minimal. The Windward side is generally both cooler and greener than the south/town side of Oahu. We are just a couple blocks from Kaneohe Bay access points from which you can launch a paddleboard or kayak. Quiet Kaneohe Beach park with a small playground and pier is close by. Memorable hiking and white sand beaches are within easy reach. Windward Mall with Macys, movies and restaurants is 8 minutes away by car. The nearest of 3 nearby grocery stores is less than 5 minutes away. Starbucks is 6 minutes away. The "hidden gems" of Kualoa Ranch, Chinaman's Hat Beach and Waiahole Poi Factory are just 20 minutes up the road. Great hiking is nearby too, such as thePu'u Ma'eli'eli Trail. The Ho'omaluhia Botanical park's lush 40 acres with catch and release pond and hiking trails is also our neighbor. You just can't beat the location for real Hawaii. This is a peaceful, safe neighborhood and our home is at the end of a cul de sac making it extra secure. Ours is a family neighborhood, where you will see many people walking dogs, jogging and kids playing basketball. It's a happy, healthy environment! For the well-being of our community, and to ensure we can continue to welcome guests, we ask you to be considerate and respectful of the many elders on our street and for quiet hours between 9:30 pm and 7am. For visiting and working on Oahu, it's essential to have a car. We are exquisitely positioned for easy highway access even though we are in quiet corner of the island. As you drive to and from home, you will see the most magnificent mountain views of anywhere on the island (or even the world!) It's only 20 minutes to the airport, 22 to Kailua Beach and 45 minutes to the North Shore. We are well situated for any student at Windward Community College (only 8 minutes away) or Marine base service men and women (16 min from marine base). AIR CONDITIONING: Most guests find the space comfortable with our seaside tradewinds, the open architecture and occasional use of the split AC. If you think you will need more than 8 hours/day of AC use please let us know and we'll have to arrange a $200/month utility surcharge to offset Hawaii's exorbitant electrical costs. COMPLIMENTARY LAUNDRY MACHINES: Please use the machines between 8am and 8pm only. Soap pods are provided for your use. Please empty the lint trap after each dryer use and remove loads promptly in consideration of other users. DOGS ON PROPERTY: Our three very sweet and friendly doggies are in and out throughout the day, especially in the driveway. When you enter or exit the driveway, they may be enjoying the sunshine and want to greet you; so will need to be mindful of their safety and close/open the driveway gate as needed. If you are uncomfortable with dogs, we suggest you consider another property. MINIMUM BOOKING DATES/TAXES: Due to Hawaii ordinances, we're sorry we can't book for fewer than 29 nights/30 days but you can stay for any subset of days within that booking. Your booking itemizes Hawaii's mandatory 17.75% sales/transient accomodation taxes. (For stays longer than 6 months, please message us so we can offer reduced rates in keeping with reduced local taxes.) NOISE: The Bayview apartment shares some walls with our main home so it works well for guests who don't mind being part of our larger household. We will naturally hear some of your daily life and expect a moderate level of "household hum" about the house.
