Your own peaceful abode awaits at the end of an automated gated gravel driveway—a cozy, freestanding 420-square-foot Ohana studio near our home, yet offering plenty of privacy. This self-contained unit features a private entrance, bathroom with shower, and a well-appointed living space. Inside, you’ll find a queen bed large enough for two adults, a comfy recliner, & a couch that easily converts into a comfortable queen-size bed, providing additional sleeping space if needed. The space includes a smart TV for streaming & internet browsing, a closet for storage, and a kitchenette with bar seating. A window-side dining table offers lovely views of the garden & even a rare peek at Fissure 8—an extraordinary volcanic landmark from the 2018 eruption. Included is a 200-square-foot covered & screened patio surrounded by lush greenery—perfect for enjoying your meals, working remotely, or relaxing with a book. A gas grill BBQ are located nearby for your use. We have on-grid electricity, excellent cell reception & high-speed internet—rare features in this jungle setting, making it a fantastic location for a work vacation or creative retreat. The acre is abundant with rare tropical plants, flowers & fruit trees. Guests are welcome to stroll the private nature trail at any time, taking in the peaceful surroundings. We also offer the use of two bikes & snorkeling gear upon request so you can explore the area more freely. You're just 30 minutes from the iconic Kehena Black Sand Beach and Hawaii’s only natural ocean hot springs, and 40 minutes from Hilo’s airport, waterfall hikes, lagoon beaches & more. This space is ideal for couples, solo travelers, or small families. Though located next to our house and lanai, the Ohana feels like its own retreat. We’re a quiet, respectful couple who value serenity and are happy to host like-minded guests. You’ll hear the soothing songs of coqui frogs at night, birds by day, and may spot geckos basking in the sun. Guest access Guests have access to the Ohana studio, a 200-square-foot covered screened patio, a propane barbecue grill, bikes, dive gear, and the spacious yard, which features a botanical variety of tropical plants and flowers along the edges of the one-acre property. The washer/dryer is available for guest use once a week—we kindly ask that laundry be limited to full loads. If additional laundry is needed, we may request a small fee to help cover energy use depending on frequency and usage. Other things to note The Ohana is cooled by a ceiling fan and floor fan, with an extra available upon request. While we don’t have AC, Leilani Estates enjoys cooler, more refreshing temperatures than many nearby areas. You'll also have a mini fridge with freezer compartment, ice maker, 2-burners for cooking, microwave, rice cooker, toaster oven, water boiler, ice maker, coffee maker, mini refrigerator with freezer, for convenience. Though there isn’t a dedicated desk, guests have comfortably worked from the dining table, sofa, screened patio, or streamed courses and conferences on the Smart TV. We’re on-grid, so you’ll have reliable electricity and strong internet—perfect for staying connected in paradise. Our water pump and main lanai are near the Ohana, so you may occasionally hear gentle activity, but we’re mindful neighbors who value the peacefulness of this lush retreat.
