Per state law of Hawaii, our vacation rental located in Kalapana is not available for rentals until the Covid-19 crisis has been abated. I will update this as soon as we know it is permissible for us to accept bookings, however I would imagine this will be better by late summer of Fall. Our home sits behind a locked gate on 3 acres which is home to Kalapana Tropicals, one of two our orchid farms that we have been running since 1987. A mere 1.5 miles from the Kalapana Coast and the area of Kalapana that was covered by lava in 1983-1990 (along with our home at the time). This hand crafted home was designed & built by John with incorporating his unique style of building with native Ohia as pillars. The main home is upstairs with 2 bedrooms, full bath, fully stocked kitchen, quaint living room and spacious lanai for outdoor dining with a beautiful orchard and ocean view. Downstairs you will find a jacuzzi, BBQ, huge covered patio, 2nd bathroom and laundry room. The house also overlooks many of our greenhouses that host approximately 150,000 orchids. The property is landscaped with 35 year old coconut trees, mango, avocado, breadfruit and citrus trees. As this is a working farm, we do have 2-4 employees that will be on the property M-F, 6:30 AM-3PM but will not impact your privacy at all. You are welcome to stroll through the greenhouses, but if you want a formal tour at either of our farms, we must make a booking for a nominal fee. We are surrounded by vacant land and have no neighbors at all. You will fall in love with our morning sunrises, starry nights and the true feeling of old Hawaii, that the Kalapana area is so famous for. The 'new' Kaimu Bay is only 1.5 miles away, along with fields of new lava that quite often has new active lava, and the famous 'Uncle Robert's' Wednesday night market with local music.
