The house is updated enough with all necessary comforts, but we've preserved the country charm of this farmhouse (built in 1875) in every way possible. Examples include exposed post & beam corners, salvaged hardwood floors, the oversized clawfoot bathtub and a 16-gauge copper farmhouse sink in the kitchen. The property is a peaceful, private, serene and magical place that you'll have all to yourself, yet you'll be just 10-15 minutes from the best attractions in the area and less than 1 minute from the Mass Pike! CALLING ALL TRAINSPOTTERS AND RAILFANS! One of the unique features of the property is its proximity to a railroad track that is used by both Amtrak as well as cargo trains. The track is adjacent to the southern border of the property, and this affords you a very cool view of the various types of trains that go by. Most find the trains' sounds a unique, cool part of the experience here. And many find the passing train sounds soothing. Sometimes there are only 1 or 2 trains in a 24 hour period. Sometimes there are as many as 15 in a 24 hour period. The trains do honk their horns as they're approaching, because the house is near a RR crossing. Some find the horn to be loud. For those who prefer not to hear them at night (they do occasionally run in the evening), ear plugs are provided for each guest. However, most say that after a day or two here, they don't notice the train horn much. The house has high speed internet / wifi and a television (basic cable) with Roku (you'll log into your own Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, etc. accounts). There are portable air conditioner units in the two larger bedrooms (primarily for sleeping...not 24/7 use), as well as one in the Living Room. And a cooling fan is available for the smaller guest bedroom. A Culligan water softener / filtration system services the entire house, the source of which is fresh well water. FULL STANDBY POWER GENERATOR! Should a storm cause the house to lose power, the 14Kw stand-by power generator will kick on automatically, providing enough power for the important things (water, heat, fridge, lights in most spaces, microwave ((but not the stove/range)), wi-fi, tv, etc.) When power resumes, the generator will switch back to the regular power source automatically. This property is very, very special. And it's very private, yet super close to Tanglewood, Kripalu, Stockbridge, Lenox, etc. You can have a baseball game out on the lawn, go Forest Bathing in our 5 acres of untouched woods, catch glimpses of the diverse wildlife on and around the property, and you can park numerous vehicles on the driveway -- you'll have so much scenic acreage to use as you please. The house is just 1/2 mile off the Mass Pike and is 10 - 20 minutes from Tanglewood, Kripalu, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Butternut, Bousquet Mountain, the Catamount Ski area, Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Shakespeare & Co., The Berkshire Theatre Group, Canyon Ranch, Miraval, tons of hiking trails, a 9-hole Donald Ross-designed golf course in Lee called Greenock Country Club (open to the public), truly awesome restaurants, fabulous local shopping in towns like Lenox, Stockbridge and Great Barrington, as well as antiquing and tag sales, Outlet shopping and more. The Town of West Stockbridge has some fabulous shops and eateries, including Six Depot Roastery and Cafe (named "Best coffee stop in New England" by Yankee Magazine and "Top international travel find" by The Guardian). Charles H. Baldwins & Sons Extracts Shop is also in town ... it's still run by a Baldwin (more than 125 years after its founding), and their Pure Vanilla Extract is so dang popular that they built an entire general store around it -- be sure you pop in. Hotchkiss Mobiles is also in town, where the hanging mobile creations by Joel Hotchkiss are created and sold (you'll see one as soon as you enter the enclosed front porch of the house)! My property, all 18 acres, is so serene, scenic and peaceful, that honestly my house guests always have a hard time leaving. There are 360-degree views of nature and no other houses in immediate proximity. I own the land on both sides of Bryan Road, so the house is buffered on all sides by pristine, untouched woods (perfect for forest bathing), a glorious hillside and pond, a 8.5 acre nature preserve and a large manicured lawn. The water on the property is a small pond w/ lily pads, ducks, geese, stunning blue heron and the occasional beaver siting. Property is private & serene, but you're close to everything! A car is a must. The basement has a washer & dryer. It stays nice and cool in the basement, even on hot summer days. Please bring your own laundry detergent.
