A stay at Guava Cottage is the ideal Hawaiian getaway for two! Lounge in the lagoon style pool all day, or take off for adventures around the island and have a relaxing, comfortable home to come back to. Wake up in your own little paradise! Guava Cottage is a freshly renovated guesthouse on property at Hale Hokuli’i, a midcentury modern home just off Keauhou Bay. It was designed for your maximum comfort and enjoyment of this special place, with a hybrid queen bed with bamboo sheets and duvet, well equipped kitchenette, full bathroom with rain shower (plus an outdoor shower), a desk workspace, and a spacious living room with a big sofa for lounging. Now with a 100 inch projector tv for movie nights! We are lucky to be located in a warm, dry climate right near the water, so you'll have the option of fresh breezes through the many windows, or a very efficient and quiet air conditioner to cool everything down. The kitchenette has everything you need for simple meals- a microwave, cooktop, pots and pans, kettle, convection/air fryer/toaster oven, blender, small refrigerator, and rice cooker. There is also a filtered water faucet in the kitchen to keep you hydrated, and a chest freezer for ice and frozen food storage (located in the shared laundry room). For coffee lovers, you’ll have a Technivorm Mokamaster drip/pour over coffee maker, a coffee grinder, and an Italian Bialetti “moka pot” for stovetop espresso. Since this is premier coffee country, you’ll get to enjoy a sample of our custom roast Kona coffee from Lehuula Farms… grown and roasted by our neighbors! If you love it, we have some you can purchase on site ($50/lb which is pretty standard for real Kona Coffee) , or before you arrive. Parking is right in front of the cottage, off the street in our private driveway, in your own designated spot. You have private, exclusive access to the cottage, and the free roam of the backyard, pool, outdoor shower, loungers, etc. The property is shared with us, but we want to give you privacy to enjoy it all, so while you are using the pool/backyard… we won’t be! You'll also have use of the outdoor dining area with a charcoal grill. You'll have complimentary use of two beach chairs, a beach umbrella, snorkel sets (mask, snorkel, and fins) and beach towels, plus lots of pool toys and lounge chairs with an umbrella by the pool. Want to get a little more adventurous? Take out our paddle boards (2 available) or beginner-friendly surfboard. They are a great way to enjoy the ocean on the bay right outside our door! You are also welcome to do your personal laundry in the shared laundry room (washer and dryer, detergent provided). We are just a message away should you need us, but we do our best to give guests plenty of privacy and space so you can fully enjoy your vacation! We are an open and inclusive household, and enthusiastically welcome queer and LGBTQ+ guests, and guests of all races, religions, backgrounds, cultures, relationship statuses, and abilities. Please don’t hesitate to share any specific needs, concerns, or questions that would help make your stay more comfortable. Guava Cottage is located in a safe, quiet, beautiful residential area (Keauhou) tucked away from the busyness of town, but still close to everything. The cottage is very close to the ocean, and an easy walk to Keauhou Bay and He'eia Bay- so you are a 3 minute walk from swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding, diving, or surfing. We are very conveniently located near one of the main shopping areas (Keauhou Shopping Center), so are less than a mile from a KTA grocery store, Longs drugstore, a local cinema, gas station, emergency clinic, and several restaurants. We are 20 minutes from the airport, 12 minutes from downtown Kona, and 5 minutes to Magic Sands beach. Renting a car is definitely the way to go on the big island! Taxis and ride share like Uber and Lyft can sometimes be hard to come by outside the airport. We have easy parking right out front in the driveway (no fighting for street parking here!) The cottage is walkable to the grocery store and ocean, but having a vehicle is very recommended for exploring. We have a very reliable, nice 2004 Lexus GX470 4WD SUV that we rent to guests who have their own insurance and are very responsible drivers. We rent directly so it’s more affordable, and only to our Cottage guests. If you are interested in renting the GX, let us know when you book! Guava Cottage is the fully detached, private guesthouse at Hale Hokuli'i, a mid-century modern home where we, your hosts Kiki and Bernie, live (along with Pendleton the toy poodle 🐩 and Luna the orange kitty 🐱) We will be available should you need us, but you'll also have plenty of privacy. We love our Kona coffee, and are blessed to live next door to the owners of one of the best coffee farms in Kona- Lehu'ula Farms. If you would like to purchase some coffee for your trip, let us know and we'll have it waiting for you upon your arrival. It is $50 per pound, and worth every cent!
