Koa Resort is located on the north end of Kihei in popular South Maui, known for its dry, sunny climate, miles of white sandy beaches, spectacular coastal areas, wonderful snorkeling, and expansive lava fields like La Perouse Bay. Koa Resort is located across the street from numerous South Maui Beaches that are off the radar of most tourists, including Kalepolepo Beach Park to the north, Waipu’ilani Beach to the south, and Keaka, tucked between. Waipu’ilani Beach is a long sand and coral beach protected by a reef. Kalepolepo Beach Park, to the north, is uncrowded and is the site for the recently upgraded Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary learning center. It is also home to culturally significant and the most accessible ancient Hawaiian fishpond in Maui. Keaka Beach is a small, narrow beach and is one of the quietest and least visited on Maui. Those who do visit are typically seeking that exact peace and solitude. You can snorkel from Keaka Beach and it isn’t uncommon to spot turtles in the water here. All are great beaches of convenience for when you want to escape touristy crowds, have dinner or drinks while you watch the sunset, or strike up a down-to-earth conversation with a local family. Featuring six miles of beaches with spectacular views, Kihei offers endless opportunities for swimming, surfing, snorkeling, and kayaking — you may even spot a giant humpback whale spouting or breaching the ocean’s surface! A paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers, Kalama Beach Park is also home to “the Cove” surf spot, beach volleyball courts, a roller-skating rink, a skate park, basketball, and tennis courts, two baseball fields, picnic pavilions, and a playground designed for younger kids. The town itself has a collection of small shopping malls to browse, a bustling farmers market, and a spate of restaurants, whiles karaoke spots, dance clubs, and sports bars ensure your nights are just as fun as your days. There is a public bus available, but most people rent a car. Open free parking onsite.
