Cozy Cottage in Abita Springs, NOLA Northshore

The Cozy Cottage with its separate guest house is a unique historic woodland property in the town of Abita Springs near restaurants and shopping. Located on an acre and a half, the grounds are landscaped in native plants and towering pines and oaks. A primary feature of the house is its wraparound screen porch where guests can gather for meals and to listen to the birds. Built of barge board, the cottage has been renovated with modern amenities but maintains its historic character and charm. The space The cottage is a renovated 19th century Victorian with original hardwood floors and Mississippi River barge board walls -- one of its unique features as evidenced by wall sockets and switches mounted on door frames or baseboards since there are no studs framing the walls. Cypress barge board homes are rare now and this one is an architectural gem. The three-sided wraparound screen porch is one of the most loved features of the house; it overlooks azaleas, camellias, gardenias, and woods with a walking path to a seasonal creek. Additionally, the grounds encompass an acre and a half filled with native and landscaped plants, towering oaks, maples, pines, American holly, and sweet olive trees, and a covered gazebo for hanging out in nature. The house has undergone renovation over the last ten years to make it into a modern livable space with central heat and air, a fully stocked kitchen, laundry room, and all you need to be comfortable while staying in the property. The separate guest house was added fifteen years ago and includes a front porch, two bedrooms and a full bathroom; it can accommodate families that need separate spaces as both buildings are available to guests and never rented separately. Guest access The entire home, screen porch, yard, deck, covered gazebo, and guest house. The main house has two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with a queen bed, as well as a full bathroom with a large walk in shower. The guest house consists of two rooms, one with two twin beds, another with one twin bed, and a full bathroom. Other things to note It is very hot and humid in South Louisiana. Expect rain showers daily. We may see temperatures above 100 degrees in late summer. Please do not manually adjust the Nest thermostat. It is set at a very comfortable 70 degrees during the day. The guest house AC is adjustable and keeps that space very cool.
