Built during Cape Cod's exciting mid-century modern era, our house has been fully renovated and now features a gourmet kitchen, bright living and dining rooms with floor-to-ceiling water views, two master bedrooms (queen beds, one with a new Tempur-Pedic for 2020) with en suite baths (both with Victoria & Albert tubs), and two additional bedrooms (three twin beds, 2 with new mattresses in 2020) with a full bathroom on their hallway. (Though Airbnb’s algorithm says Mayo beach, we are not in that commercial part of town but a 5 minute drive from there, on a very private piece of land called Paine Hollow. The map in Airbnb IS accurate -- our house is in that spot -- but I just wanted to clarify we are not on Mayo beach in downtown Wellfleet.) The Half Shell is furnished with a blend of contemporary and mid-century furnishings and art -- and it has a multi-zone central air conditioning system, hot air heat, and amenities including hi-speed Internet WiFi, cable, a laundry room with washer & dryer, and a gas grill. Nestled in a tranquil pine forest up a private path from one of South Wellfleet's most secluded tidal beaches, the Half Shell's patios, decks, and outdoor showers overlook Blackfish Creek and the cut through to Wellfleet Bay. The patio off of the dining area is bluestone with a teak dining set and lounge chairs. In 2017 we added an additional bluestone patio at the front of the house, ideal for grilling. The beach in front of the house is perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding at high tide, and the property's paths lead into the Conservation lands of the Fox Island Preserve -- wonderful for hiking and bird-watching. The house is 2 miles (a 5 minute drive) from the famed Atlantic dune beaches and is within minutes of fresh water ponds for swimming and boating, the Mass Audubon Society, the Cape Cod National Seashore, and a 24 mile-long bike trail connecting nearby towns. Our house offers simple luxury and wonderful privacy. We supply pillows, blankets, mattress covers and beach towels; we do NOT generally provide sheets, pillowcases or bath towels. But we are happy to order linen & towel service for you through a reputable local company which can deliver them to the house. Please let us know if you would like us to arrange linen service for you for an additional fee. Guests have the entire house to themselves -- along with the patios, nature paths and ample parking. There is a lock box on the garage with keys (renters return their keys here after their visit), but we can also send you a key in advance of your stay if you would prefer to get your key by mail before you arrive. We are available for renters (who can reach us by email or on our cells), and we are happy to answer any questions you might have. Set in a private area near the Fox Island nature preserve, Half Shell Cottage offers access to nature trails and tranquility. Visitors to the Half Shell will need a car.
