Private, furnished studio cottage (625 sq ft) set in extensive perennial gardens with flowers, stream and waterfalls. Enjoy a view of Foys Lake and surrounding mountains. Elegant hardwood floors. Skylights and stellar window views. Full bath. Full Kitchen. Four mile scenic drive from Kalispell. Easy trip to Glacier National Park. Internet. Electric heat. No smokers / pets. Guests frequently call this a "sanctuary". It's wrapped in natural sounds of silence, and surrounded by birdsong, the beating sound of dozens of geese taking off from the lake surface, and winds chiming through tree boughs. Deer, raccoons and turkeys roam by and occasionally a small bear, while eagles soar to their nest above. For winter visitors, we are located equidistant from two ski resorts: Blacktail and Whitefish Mountain - each is less than two dozen miles. For x/c skiers, we're located just 2 miles from Heron Equestrian Park with its extensive trail network and Foys Trail of 26 miles which connects to Blacktail ski resort. When the lake freezes over, a winter delight consists of skiing down to the lake and gliding along on the frozen surface for a brisk cardio loop - no driving necessary. At about 3,300 feet in altitude, it’s a lofty view located above the most frequent valley freeze zones, and below the mountain frost line-- where the gardening season can be extended as long as possible. The perennial flower beds provide a continuous parade of bulbs, orchard fruits, and harmonious perennial color changes of florid proportions from May to November. These are accompanied by the gentle rhythm of a brooking, recirculating stream and fish ponds. Together they are set within the native niche of naturally occurring glacier lilies, lupine, mushrooms; an understory of snowberry, ninebark, and wild rose bushes, guarded by a 75-year old contiguous forest of juniper, Douglas fir, Ponderosa pine, Larch, Mountain ash and cedar trees. An automatic sprinkler system on a private well covers 12 zones, above which favorite residents conduct their lives: eagle families, dragonflies, many migrating birds (which feed at the eye-level bird feeder), hummingbirds, ravens, and even an occasional and rare hummingbird moth. Surrounding neighborhood sounds include on occasion, the trumpet of an elk, the lament of loons, the howls from coyote dens, tree-top birdsong, and chirps of crickets and frogs, the announced arrivals and departures of vacationing geese on the lake, and snort of passing deer, not to mention wind chimes reverberating in the breathing breezes which themselves whisper through the forest boughs. Foys Lake beyond can be viewed from this property on three sides; about two miles long and ½ mile wide, it turns deep jade green and Caribbean blue, with its Artesian up-wellings after the ice melts. In autumn, mist rises up in early morning swirls while the lake exchanges warmth with the sky. In winter, ice-fishing, ice-skating, and x/c skiing make it an excellent back door recreational playground. In summer, the public beach at the lake’s south end affords swimming, fishing, boating, windsurfing, kayaking, and canoeing, where you would be likely to cross paths with resident turtles, muskrats, ducks, geese, osprey, hawks, loons, pheasants, heron rookeries, grouse, wild turkeys, and of course, eagles. Located just across Foys Lake from Lone Pine State Park, affords you access to a 150 acres for hiking, site-seeing, picnicking, archery, weddings, and conferences. Heron Equestrian Park is located only three miles south, a beautiful meadow and mountainous area to x/c in winter or attend equestrian events in summer. A fully paved road provides a scenic drive from the quiet seclusion of this property into Kalispell, only a four miles lilting descent to the valley floor where three rivers braid together providing a recreational paradise (river rafting, fly fishing, kayaking, floating, site-seeing). Take a motorboat down Flathead River to dinner and a play in Big Fork. Flathead Valley is famous for its huge freshwater lake, upon which many water sports may be partaken, including yacht races and sailing. Glacier Park International Airport is within a twenty minute drive across the valley floor of lush meadows, checkered fields, and diverse forests. The ski conditions at Big Mountain Ski Resort can be observed from our north-facing windows before heading out for the 25 minute commute. Or, traveling in the opposite direction, Blacktail Mountain Ski Resort is located 30 miles to the south, with a 26-mile x/c ski/hiking trail connecting it to Heron Equestrian Park three miles from our door. Situated only 60 miles from the Canadian border, the Swan and Mission Ranges, within view, are some of the grizzly’s last-stand habitat. Moose, mountain goats, and elk migrate through and many opportunities exist for hiking, birding, mountain biking, river-rafting, x/c skiing, and horseback riding, to name but a few aspects of our paradise. Absorb the lyrical wealth of living artfully with nature. It’s soul food. Eat. Enjoy. Because you are located in the middle of a perennial garden, an automatic gate and 8 to 11 foot (invisible) fence keep deer out. It's important to always close the gate behind you, and report any deer you notice inside as soon as possible.
