Beautiful apartment w/spa near beach, pets welcome
Description
This charming West Barnstable apartment is the Captain's Quarters. It's a private wing to the Bursley Manor, an elegantly restored 1670 farmhouse set on an acre of shared grounds along beautiful & historic Route 6A. It offers 2 bedrooms, a full bath, a lounge, a sleep sofa, and a laundry. There are 2 fridges, 2 coffee machines, and a microwave. Outside are the shared patio with grills & fire pits and the spa area. Pristine, 6-mile Sandy Neck Beach is 2 miles from this perfect mid-Cape hub. The space The Captain's Quarters is a comfortable and pretty private apartment added to the Bursley Manor in the 1800s. On its ground floor is Jacques Cousteau, the light and airy master suite. It has a queen mahogany sleigh bed, a vaulted ceiling with a skylight, a walk-in closet, a secretary desk, and a lounge chair and ottoman in front of the large TV. Jacques Cousteau's ensuite bath features a double-sink vanity and a lighted shower that's big enough to rinse off several kids at a time after a day at the beach. The bedroom's French doors open to the shared east patio. Adjoining Jacques Cousteau is a bright and spacious lounge with a queen sofa bed and a closet, making it a nice third bedroom if needed. The lounge features two Queen Anne chairs, an expandable coffee table where kids love to do puzzles and play games, and a large desk. The modem is in the lounge, so the internet is strong here. The lounge also has French doors to the patio, and stairs leading to the second floor. At the top of the stairs, turn right and you're in your private laundry. Turn left instead and cross the catwalk and you're in the second bedroom - cute and cozy Crow's Nest. With a twin bed and two double bunk beds, it's great for up to five kids. They love the catwalk, the sloping gables, a snacks fridge and their own TV! The decor in the Captain's Quarters is fresh, nautical, and welcoming. All beds are furnished with high-quality linens. There are two refrigerators - an apartment-sized version with a freezer in the master suite, and the snack fridge in Crow's Nest. There's a microwave in Jacques Cousteau, Illy and Keurig coffee machines in the lounge, and there are AC units throughout. Exit the Captain's Quarters via either set of French doors and you're on the east patio. Across it is Sea Glass carriage house, and the Captain's Quarters shares the east patio with guests in Sea Glass, if there are any. The patio has four tables with a total seating capacity of 23. There are also two gas fire pits, a chiminea, a gas grill, and a charcoal grill. Firewood is on either side of Sea Glass - help yourself! Beyond the patio is the shared spa. Built in 2024, it offers a hot tub for seven, a far-infrared sauna for four, and a cold plunge, as well as indoor and outdoor relaxation areas. The Bursley Manor is set on an acre of grounds, including flower beds and a lawn that's perfect for outdoor games and sports. There are container gardens from which guests harvest fresh herbs and produce. The grounds are shared by all guests at the manor. West Barnstable is a charming, centrally located village that is the perfect jumping-off point to all of Cape Cod's many attractions. Kayak to Cape Cod Bay on Scorton Creek, go whale-watching from Barnstable Harbor, or stroll along Sandy Neck's pristine six-mile beach. Whatever you like to do, the Captain's Quarters at the Bursley Manor is the perfect place to start! Guest access The Captain's Quarters wing of the Bursley Manor is yours alone and shares no interior space with the Farmhouse. Access to the Captain's quarters is mainly through the two sets of French doors that open onto the east patio. There is a west-facing front door to the apartment that opens onto the south patio. That patio is reserved for guests in the Farmhouse. Guests in the Captain's Quarters may use the front door, but only to pass through to the parking area. The Captain's Quarters shares the east patio with Sea Glass Carriage House if there are simultaneous bookings. The patio has ample furnishings to accommodate the needs of the guests in both units. The acre of grounds at the Bursley Manor is shared by all guests in the Farmhouse, the Captain's Quarters, and Sea Glass. I encourage my guests to use the areas of the grounds closest to their accommodations. Other things to note Welcome to the Captain's Quarters at the Bursley Manor! Below are some notes that will help you and your group stay safe and happy during your stay. Bursley Manor Configuration The Bursley Manor comprises three units: The Farmhouse; The Captain's Quarters; and Sea Glass Carriage House. These may be booked in combination or separately. The three units share no interior space. The east patio is shared by the Captain's Quarters and Sea Glass Carriage house if those are booked simultaneously by different parties. The south patio is reserved for use by guests in the Farmhouse. The Bursley Manor is set on an acre of private grounds shared by all guests at the property. I encourage guests to make use of the lawn areas nearest to the unit they have booked, but there are some areas more suited to some games than others and people occasionally move around. The spa area is also shared by all guests at the property. Using Fire at the Bursley Manor Please keep in mind that the Bursley Manor is a wooden structure, the main part of which is more than 350 years old. It is imperative to be careful at all times with the use of fire on any part of the property. Propane tanks are attached to the gas fire pits and grills on the east patio. You may use any gas you find in them. If a tank is empty, you are welcome to refill it at your expense, but you must leave all tanks at the property upon your departure. The same applies to charcoal - if you find it in the east patio chest against the north wall of the sauna house, you are welcome to use it. If there isn't any, please purchase what you need. Please extinguish all fires you are using before retiring at night or departing the grounds for any period of time. Note: There are fire extinguishers installed in most rooms throughout the house. Firewood is located on both sides of Sea Glass carriage house. Please help yourselves. You are also welcome to take firewood to the beach for beach fires. Just stop by the Sandy Neck gatehouse after 4 p.m. and buy a $5 permit. On the subject of fire, it must be noted that the Bursley Manor is a NON-SMOKING property. I'm sorry, but insurance requirements dictate that smoking of any kind is not allowed anywhere in the Bursley Manor or on its grounds. To emphasize the importance and seriousness of this insurance requirement, the following rule has been implemented: Evidence that members of a guest party are smoking or have smoked at the Compound will result in a fine of $500 being charged to the booking party. Supplies The Captain's Quarters are stocked with paper towels, facial tissue, and toilet tissue, as well as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Linens and towels are supplied for each of your guests. Beach towels are in each bedroom, as are bathrobes. If there are not sufficient towels, please let me know. Pets at the Bursley Manor The Bursley Manor is pet-friendly, provided that you discuss with me before your arrival your plans for bringing your pets. The one-time charge is $100 per pet for stays of three days or longer. Shorter stays are charged at the rate of $35 per pet per day. If you plan to be absent from the property for more than four hours, I can walk your well-behaved pets or arrange to have them walked for an hour at a charge of $35 per pet. Pet accidents inside the apartment incur commensurate cleaning fees. Extra Guests, Beds, & Pack ‘n Plays Two Pack 'n Plays with sheets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Extra-bed options available include single-bed roll-aways and double futons that can be placed on floors. Extra guests over the age of 14 will incur an additional charge of $50 per night, and their stays must be arranged with me in advance. Overnight guests not identified as part of a booking party are considered trespassers. Beach Supplies Beach supplies, toys, and outdoor games are in the white chest against the south side of the spa's stockade fencing. Beach towels are inside the cloth beach bags hanging in each bedroom, with extras in the light blue chest next to the desk in the Jacques Cousteau bedroom. All of the beach equipment and towels are in used condition. If you require new equipment, you can find it at the many beach supply stores on the Cape. Ocean State Job Lot is well stocked at reasonable prices. I do not supply beach umbrellas, and all patio umbrellas at the property must remain in the table positions in which they are placed. Upon returning from the beach, you are welcome to use the clothesline, which is rolled up in a dispenser attached to the northwest corner of the sauna house. It pulls out and attaches to a hook on the outside southwest corner of the Jacques Cousteau bedroom. Ask for clothespins. Using the Spa The spa is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. as a flexible rule. Please keep in mind that the homeowner closest to the spa is an elderly woman who will make official complaint if she is disturbed at what she considers to be unreasonable hours. In other words, if you remain considerate about noise levels, there should be no problem. Please do shower before getting into the hot tub. Otherwise, sunscreens and other products turn the water cloudy and cause unwanted deposits to collect on the tub walls. The sauna is a far-infrared model, which means the sauna interior doesn’t heat up. It heats you instead. There are towels in baskets on either side of the sauna. Please use them only for the sauna. You are welcome to refill the cold plunge upon your arrival. You can buy ice for it at 7 G’s, the liquor store at the intersection of Route 149 and Route 6A, one mile east of the Manor. I also freeze ice blocks in loaf pans, which are $1 per block. I have installed a insect screen curtain at the entrance to the sauna house. Its two halves close magnetically at the center. Keeping the bugs out will be a matter of making sure the curtain halves are completely shut when you enter and leave the sauna house. Otherwise, you will be sharing the space with quite a few unwanted guests. The Bursley Manor Septic System The Bursley Manor is on a well and has a septic tank. Please flush ONLY human waste and toilet paper. Other kinds of wipes, tampons, and pads will clog the system - very unpleasant for everyone. There are trash cans in each bathroom where used wipes and sanitary products may be deposited. Internet Network: BursleyManor Password: Bursley18 Garbage Collection at the Manor Garbage on the Cape is sorted into single-stream recycling and trash. The single-stream recycling bins are marked with green stickers that list in white writing the kinds of materials accepted. Regular trash goes out on Tuesday nights/very early Wednesday mornings at the end of the driveway furthest from the house. Recyclables go out on Thursday nights/very early Friday mornings at the same place. As your host, I'll bring the garbage to the curb, but please place it in the appropriate containers before the scheduled collections. That's all I can think of, please let me know if I left anything out. Thank you very much for choosing the Captain's Quarters at the Bursley Manor. Have a wonderful time! Please call if you have any questions at all - I'm more than happy to help.
