Grandma Z's Guesthouse is a three bedroom, two bathroom ranch house located in Alta Vista, Iowa, a small town in northeast Iowa. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing accommodations await you for a night, a week or a longer stay! Grandma Z's Guesthouse is a fully furnished ranch style home located in Alta Vista, Iowa. It can comfortable sleep ten with its three bedrooms and additional fold-outs. Located in a small, quiet town in Northeast Iowa, Grandma Z's provides a private, relaxing place to get away from it all. A great additional feature is the second guest house located directly across the street, The Recker House, which can also sleep ten. Many families rent both houses so that a larger group can gather. Whether you stay with us for a vacation, for a family gathering, a hunting trip, a short term work assignment or any other reason that brings us to your area, you will find the property is equipped with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Grandma Z's have two queen sized beds on the main floor with a bath off the connecting hallway. The main floor bath is equipped with a tub/shower combination and a high rise toilet. The kitchen has a full sized refrigerator, glass topped stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and a good selection of pots and pans and dining ware. There is a CD player/radio and a hairdryer. Ceiling fans are located in one of the upstairs bedrooms and the dining air. The home has central air and central heat as well as wireless internet service and basic cable to each of the two televisions. The televisions located on each level are SMART TVs. There is a desktop computer on the lower level as well. The couch in the living room makes into a double bed and a loveseat located in the lower level makes into a single bed and there is a daybed that can be used as a single bed. With the queen bed located in the lower level bedroom (with an egress window), the house can comfortably sleep ten. A deck is located off the side of one of the upstairs bedrooms and is equipped with a table and chairs and some additional seating. A covered patio accessed through the garage has a picnic table and a charcoal grill (guests provide charcoal and lighter). Pets and smoking are not allowed in the house. However, pets can be kenneled in the garage and smoking is permitted on the deck and patio areas. Guests have access to the main floor washer and dryer as well as the units located on the lower level. A selection of board games and toys are maintained at the house. A pack and play is located in one of the closets in case you are traveling with a little one. An iron and ironing board are also available. The house borders on a farm field, thus increasing the privacy of the property. A great view of the field and surrounding area can be had from the patio and deck. Guests have commented on the great shows put on by the fireflies and the awesome sunrises available from the deck or the bedroom located directly off the deck. Our guests tell us that they find everything they need--and more!--when they stay at Grandma Z's. Recreation-wise, access to a paved 25 mile plus bike trail is located about four miles from the property. A whitewater rafting course is located about 18 miles away in Charles City. Other communities nearby are Elma (4 miles), New Hampton (15 miles) and Cresco (21 miles). While small in population at approximately 256, Alta Vista has a convenience store (which makes a great breakfast pizza among other offerings), post office, bar/restaurant, a hair salon, grain elevator, body shop, and more. There are two churches in town, a Catholic church and a Lutheran church, both with weekend services. The town's municipal hall is the gathering site of a number of weddings and other celebrations. The town has a nice park with playground equipment renovated in 2017, basketball hoop and ball diamond. Alta Vista is frequently referred to as "The Friendly Town." We invite you to visit the area and experience how we earned the title! Guests will have access to the entire house during their stay. Since the house is ready for your stay and you will have access with the code you've bern given, it is likely we may not see you during your stay. We are, however, generally available by phone, text or e-mail should you need something. We also live within a few blocks of the property and our address can be found on material at the house. Alta Vista is known as The Friendly Town. We encourage you to visit our community and experience for yourself why we've earned such a great title! You will arrive by car and will need a car to get around. A second guesthouse, The Recker House, is located directly across the street, should you be looking for additional short term housing.
