Rare opportunity to go back in time to the way life should be! Our historic yet fully renovated beach cottage, The Captain's Lodge, is where you will make unforgettable family memories. We are nestled steps away from Essex Bay, where you can walk on the beach and along the quiet wooded roads and stunning green marshes, go swimming, and paddle boarding along the waterfront and Walker's Creek. You will enjoy our special place on the bay, relaxing on the beach and having your feet in the sand! The space Although historic, our cottage has undergone an extensive renovation, the outcome was a very modernized yet beachy and cozy vibe. The lights are all on dimmers, the kitchen appliances are stainless steel, the wood floors are new throughout. There is adequate WiFi and surround sound with basic cable. Opportunity with smart TV to stream via your own accounts. The bathrooms are new and bright, with lovely tilework. The second floor includes 2 bedrooms, and two full size beds in a loft setting on either side of the staircase. I have noted that they are bedrooms on this description, as to show that there are two additional areas each with a full size bed. These bedrooms each have their own bureau and loft style setting, and are without closets or privacy walls. The windows along the loft provide a lovely view of the bay, and truly gorgeous sunrises. It’s so worth getting up at sunrise to see this miraculous spectacular sight. The other two bedrooms have doors, and their walls go almost to the ceiling. One room has a full size bed, and the other has the TV and a queen size bed. You will have access to the cottage, deck and outside patio and shower. There are very comfortable outdoor furniture, fire pit and large deck umbrella. There are two paddle boards and a couple of adult life jackets available. The beach and docks are public, and there is usually a day lifeguard at the dock during the summer months. The Town of Essex provides public access to a beach, dock, and mooring rentals. Please look on the town of Essex, MA web pages regarding Harbor master and transient-moorings. My family has enjoyed this fun cottage for many years and we have now moved just across the street. I will be maintaining my garden and window boxes on the patio. It truly is a magical place to spend the warm summer months. Have questions, please send me a message! Guest access Our beach community has a special history of providing generations of families fun, laughter, tan lines and summer activities along the waterfront. It's a priceless experience where one might think they are caught in time, as we often joke that our neighborhood should be called Pleasantville! Our cottage is actually basking in CODA’s Oscar Glow which was shot in our own backyard in 2019, CODA was primarily filmed in and around Gloucester - with the Rossi’s family home being our neighbor’s cottage and the side of our cottage in many shots! We’re famous! CODA won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor. So come stay with us and enjoy the scenes and lifestyle that millions of people worldwide wish they could experience by the sea, after seeing the movie about our area. We are also just a short drive to local famous clam shacks, such as Farnum's and Woodman's restaurants. Other popular restaurants are CK Pearl, Shea's, the Village and the Great Marsh Brewing Company. A little further, but still less than 20 minutes is the Beauport Hotel and their 1606 Restaurant & Oyster Bar. They have a patio overlooking the gorgeous harbor. We are less than 20 minutes from beautiful sandy beaches, Crane Beach and the Crane Estate in Ipswich, Wingaersheek Beach and Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester. Each beach will have a snack bar open during the summer months. Of course there's lots of ice cream shops and farm stands in the area. Some of our favorite activities! Seasonally the farms in the area will have pick your own fruits. The Essex River Cruise starts in town and goes pass our neighborhood via boat. It's a historical tour and beautiful to be out on the water. Our renters have also golfed on the Cape Ann Golf Course and gone on Ocean kayak tours, along with venturing into Boston and being tourists. Our little community is a hidden gem, most not even knowing it exist, but once you experience this peaceful beachside neighborhood, it will forever remain a special place in your heart. Housekeeping fee includes $79 fee for Accidental Damage Protection Insurance covering $3,000. Our cancellation policy is strict, please consider using travel protection insurance, such as Nationwide. We can give you that information upon request. We would consider only house-trained, hypoallergenic small dogs, that are less than 15 pounds. Please get prior approval from host. Pet cleaning fee will be applied.
