Description
Relax at this peaceful, unique place to stay. Enjoy your morning coffee as you watch the sunrise over the tranquil fields. The space This beautifully renovated Antique Cape home was believed to be built in the late 1700s. It is surrounded by peaceful pastures lined with old stone walls and forest. We recently renovated it, but kept some of the unique and historic aspects of the old New England home. The exposed beams and wood are original. The gleaming refinished wood floors are hemlock and pine. The large center chimney is one of my favorite features. The home has an old charm, with modern conveniences. The first floor living space is available for guests on this listing. This includes a bedroom (with walk in closet and a double bed), full bathroom (with walk in shower), fully equipped kitchen, dining room, living room and den. There is a full sized futon in the living room. Guest access There is space for parking 2 cars, directly across the dirt road from the house. There are a few steps to enter the home. Please don’t park on grass. Guests have a private entrance either using the front door on the porch or the back door. They have full access to the main level of the main house. There is another unit attached to the house, connected by a laundry room. Guests do not have access to that. For longer stays, access to the laundry room might be considered for use of the washer and dryer. For this listing, you do not have access to the second floor of the main house. There is a working wood fireplace in the kitchen and a wood stove in the main house. Unfortunately, those are not to be used by guests. If you are seriously interested in having a fire in the fireplace or wood stove, we can discuss that together and possibly make arrangements. Guests have access to the yard (shared). You will find a soccer ball, football, badminton racquet, birdies, and volleyball in the house that could be used outside. Badminton/volleyball nets and equipment, as well as corn hole are also available. There is a fire pit, chairs, and picnic table available for use. The outdoor space is shared, but rarely used by tenant. There is a stack of firewood right near the fire pit, by the stone wall, for guest use. If more is needed, please contact me! (Please be respectful and do not take firewood from other stacks around the property.) Other things to note This home/farm is in a rural setting, cell service can be spotty, depending on which network you have. There is wifi, but again, it isn’t going to be high speed and can be a little unpredictable. I would not come expecting to be able to work remotely from the house as internet speed is not always reliable. While there have been guests that informed me they were able to hold zoom meetings without issue, I can’t guarantee it. There is not a tv in the home. Think of this as an opportunity to unplug, relax, enjoy the outdoors, while also having a comfortable, unique place to stay. There are books, board games, and puzzles available for indoor fun. There are some outdoor sports/recreational equipment available! Another note – there is no central AC in the house. During warmer months, guests should not touch the thermostat (even though it says air/fan). There is no central air. There are ceiling fans in each bedroom and a few box fans for use. There is a portable air conditioning unit available to guests in the heat of the summer, but please help us conserve and only use it when absolutely necessary. There are plenty of trails locally for hiking, snowshoeing or riding atvs. Walk out the door and you are basically in state forest land, with trails. There are also beautiful ponds (one is within 2 miles, that you could get to via trails or drive), and lakes nearby for swimming or kayaking. I have kayaks I could rent you if that is of interest. If a simple walk for fresh air is more your style, this town is a beautiful country setting for that, but there are hills! :) I can give you suggestions and ideas of things to do and places to check out if you would like. Go for a short drive and you will be able to see beautiful New England small towns and reach more populated areas as well. Check out my guidebook for some local recommendations! As mentioned before, there is another unit attached to this home, where someone lives. They will be considerate of your stay, please be mindful of their presence as well. I live up the road. My dog, Zelia and I are often around. The farm is my family’s and someone is usually around and able to help if needed. We will do our best to give you the privacy you want, but we may be outside working around on the property at times. Be Still Meadows is up the road from the main operations of the farm, so it truly is a peaceful place to enjoy the country life, while also giving you a taste of farm life. Again, the house is in the country, so it is not uncommon to see or find bugs, ants, and/or wildlife. We have seen and/or heard coyotes, moose, bears, porcupine, groundhogs, and other wildlife in the area. We recently added a few beautiful horses to the farm. The white one is Cayambe (Caya), the short brown one is Sonnet, and the tall brown one is Tranquility (Quil). The large draft horse is Dale and the mini/pony is Quinde. They will likely be in paddocks around the property. Feel free to enjoy watching them, but please refrain from feeding, going near, or in the fencing to pet them (the fencing is likely “hot” - electrified). In the morning and evening someone from my family might be around to do horse chores, but will do our best to not disturb. Someone may also be around getting them ready to ride or working with them. It may be necessary to arrange with guests the use of the hose attached to the house to water the horses. With that, this is a working farm! You are welcome to enjoy the yard right around the house, but please, it is important that you check in with us if you are wishing to wander around the fields, as there may be electric fences and livestock. You may see the cows, horses, or goats grazing, pigs hanging out, or chickens wandering as you walk around the property or down the road. While you are staying at Be Still Meadows, be sure to check out our cute, self-serve farm store, at Chase Hill Farm, for our delicious artisanal raw milk cheese and raw milk from our 100% grassfed, certified organic cows. You can also find our meat products and other great local products. If you are interested, I can have some milk, cheese, bacon or breakfast sausage, and eggs, from the farm, in the refrigerator, ready for your visit (for the price of the items). Pets - well behaved, house broken, friendly dogs are always welcome, with pet fee paid. (Up to two dogs per trip.) There is not a fenced in area. I do ask that pets stay off the furniture and are not left alone (free to roam) when you are not in the home. If they are crate trained and you bring a crate, that is fine. I know how great it can be to bring your dog with you!! Be aware however, that there are dogs around on the farm (also there is wildlife)! Often in the evenings and early mornings you can hear coyotes around. My dog Zelia (a golden retriever) may be wandering around off leash. Other family dogs you might see off leash are a chocolate lab, Zion, and a black lab/st bernard Boaz. All of them are very friendly. There are also 4 livestock guardian dogs on the farm (to protect the livestock). They are fenced in or tied up. Please do not approach them, unless I or someone else from the farm is with you and gives you permission. Early check-in and late check-out could be arranged ahead of time if it is possible with my cleaning schedule, for a small fee. Without arrangements made ahead of time with me, guests will be charged $30 for each hour after the designated 11 am check-out time.
