Our 1780's farmhouse has been completely renovated and retains its rustic country feel. Experience early American period life with only a few modern conveniences (e.g. full laundry and 5G wi-fi). Our secluded setting on 19 acres in southern Mass is minutes from I-90 and I-84, and borders CT, Old Sturbridge Village and the Westville recreation area. This unique property offers quiet woods and meadows hosting an abundance of birds and a variety of wildlife. Enjoy taking it all in from 'his and hers' rocking chairs on the front porch or dining al fresco under the pergola in the kitchen garden. The bedrooms are comfy and inviting. There is a writing desk and reading area, and the living room has a wood burning fireplace with a large bin of firewood included. The large kitchen is completely equipped if you choose to dine in but there a many outstanding restaurants within a 5 mile radius. The floors may creak and the ceilings might be a bit crooked but you will feel safe and cozy in this lovely 200 plus year old home! The attached studio can be rented for an additional fee. This is a working farmstead! The owner and host may be present on the property (but not residing in the home), overseeing daily operations. Vegetable and flower gardens, fruit trees, berry bushes and chickens require tending. Some general maintenance and firewood processing may be taking place during your stay. This is a VERY quiet neighborhood, where the stars still light up the sky, and the crickets and peep toads will lull you to sleep. Activities in Sturbridge include summer concerts on the common and dining at the Publick House, Cedar Street Grille and many other excellent restaurants. Nearby lakes offer great fishing, and a brewery or two are close at hand to quench your thirst (Treehouse Brewery Charlton is less than 10 miles away). The Brimfield Antique show is even closer and the area hosts antiques galore!! For fine dining, the Metro Bistrot in Southbridge serves exquisite French cuisine. There is a fine public golf course nearby, the Heritage Country Club, and several others are just a short drive away. Westville recreation area is within walking distance, where you can picnic, fish, canoe or hike along the Grand Trunk railway trail. Of course, the Old Sturbridge Village is a must do and only 5 minutes away, and August 3rd & 4th will be this year's Redcoats & Rebels event (the largest military re-enactment in New England, held annually at OSV). September is Woodstock Fair days. October is best for fall foliage or a Samhain celebration. In November, host a home-cooked meal in our well-appointed kitchen, or enjoy Thanksgiving at OSV or Drover’s Roast at Salem Cross Inn. In December, a Christmas stroll at OSV shouldn’t be missed. Year-round, High Grass Farm is a hidden gem and sure to become a favorite destination! Shuttle service can be arranged. Remember that this property is over 200 years old!!! The wood floors may have nails or splinters so shoes should be worn at all times. There are stairs leading to the bedrooms and the baths are on the first floor. Dogs are welcome and a day care service can be provided by an adjoining home. Not recommended for children under age 10. We provide a welcome breakfast package including a bundle of firewood. Additional products can be purchased separately. Firewood bundles ,fresh eggs and seasonal produce are available and priced fairly.
