There's plenty of outdoor nature to explore all seasons. The space Tucked between the Mississippi River and the Limestone Bluffs that edged the frontier, the area now known as Guttenberg, is an Iowa Great Place. Guttenberg has so much pioneer and innovative history and our home overlooks it and areas north. Located on the picturesque Great River Road scenic byway, our home sits over 600 feet above the riverbed, overlooking a wide spance of the Mississippi River. To the north, you see Frenchtown, the first settlement in the Guttenberg area, to the south lies Guttenberg, Able and Esmann island with unique grass-laden “air park” (check out annual Abel island Fly In), Lock & Dam 10, and directly across the River to the east is the village of Glen Haven,WI., and glacier-carved bluffs of the maple and deciduous trees that glow at sunset, moonrise, and especially during fall foliage. Pre-dawn and Sunrise are a special time of bird singing and nature waking up to greet the day. Cargo trains carrying corn, coal, ethanol, etc., run along the riverbed on both the Iowa and Wisconsin side whistling their presence, reminding you of days gone by. Barge and riverboat/pleasure craft vessels pass by casually as the river flows by.
