Relax in this spacious home, located about 10 minutes north of Hilo in the peaceful, rural neighborhood of Pepeekeo. Nestled along the coast of Onomea Bay, you’ll be close enough to drive into “town” for dinner or groceries or shopping, but far enough from downtown vibes to escape into the serene tropical landscape of the east side of the island. Head further north up the Hamakua Coast for an epic scenic tour of ancient Hawaiian valleys, farmland, and quaint one road towns. SUV rental available. This beautiful home is located in the neighborhood of Pepeekeo, which once boasted a thriving sugar plantation industry and is still home to many farms and open land with relics of the past. The house itself is spacious and modern, with all the amenities you will need for a relaxing stay. The master bedroom has a queen bed and full en suite bathroom. The second bedroom also has a queen bed. The third bedroom has a trundle bed (which can be pulled out to make 2 single beds), and can also be used as an office. The second full bathroom is located just down the hallway. The kitchen is equipped with an array of cooking appliances and kitchenware, an electric glass top stove, oven, and full refrigerator, and dishwasher. The kitchen flows right into the open layout of the living area and is tastefully decorated with Hawaiiana charm. The crown jewel of the entire property is the large outdoor lanai that spans the length of the back of the house and provides room to enjoy your morning coffee while listening to the tropical birds sing, practice yoga, have a beautiful dinner in the fresh air, curl up in the hammock with a book, or enjoy a glass of wine and watch the rain. There are many quaint country roads within walking distance, including the Sugar Mill Road, and the 4-mile scenic route that winds past waterfalls and majestic coastal trails. By car, you’ll be just 5 minutes from Akaka Falls (400+ foot waterfall), 45 minutes to Waipio Valley, 1 hour to Waimes, and just 90 minutes to pop over to the breathtaking Kohala Coast. On a clear day you will see Mauna Kea just behind the neighborhood, and there are many beautiful country roads to stroll down nearby. Morning walks down Sugar Mill Road boast a sweeping ocean view overlooking idyllic Hawaiian farmland with cows, horses and sheep. The nearby scenic drive of Onomea Bay is a 15-minute walk and winds through many waterfalls and palm lined country roads, as well as the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden. I live on property in a private unit, with its own separate entrance, attached to the house. The only shared space is the laundry room. We will likely see each other coming and going, and I am available when needed, but otherwise you will have as much privacy as you desire. A short 10-minute drive north of Hilo, Pepeeko is nestled in an area known as Onomea Bay and the beginning of breathtaking rural scenery of rolling hills and pastures overlooking the ocean, lush tropical walking trails and neighborhood lanes, and the most beautiful drive on the island up the Hamakua Coast. Our house is walking distance to the Pepeekeo Scenic Drive with winding roads, waterfalls, and tropical botanical abundance, and sits in a peaceful neighborhood just below the slopes of Mauna Kea and just above the ocean cliffs of Onomea Bay. There are ceiling fans in every room of the house. Temperatures range, year-round, from about 62 to 70 at night and from 75 to 86 in daytime. Our warmest months are from mid August to mid November but even then, the house is very comfortable all day long. There are also several fans and when you open screened doorways and windows, there's a beautiful tropical cross-breeze.
