The March Hare. A vintage Nantucket summer house.
Description
Welcome to our family's house, the March Hare. It is ideal for families with big kids or littles, and for meeting friends after far too long. It's within walking distance to town, and biking distance to beaches. Surrounded on all sides by 20 acres of Land Bank property, you have seclusion that is increasingly rare on the island. Well behaved dogs are more than welcome. The space The March Hare is a summer house through and through; kept on very relaxed lines it is completely unfussy. Its been the source of many summers' home base after the beach or town, doors open. The house was originally built in the '30s as the hunt club on the island. The sign in the living room was once at the end of the drive. Our grandmother bought the house before WWII, and continued it's horse and hound traditions into the 1980's. Its filled with items from the house's history along with this years treasures from the beach. Guest access You are more than welcome to the whole house, the yard, and the surrounding trails. The kitchen is well set up for many cooks with plenty of gear. The picnic table on the deck is great for big dinners as is the huge dining table inside. There is a fire pit and wood for the evening hang out. There are piles of bats, balls, beach toys, and other things to swing, hit, and throw; as well as all the room you want to use them. The outdoor shower is the only way to go even in the dark or the rain. Inside showers consist of shower set ups over the house's original clawfoot tubs. If you are there on a chilly night, the baths are wonderful. Please be aware the house does not have any air conditioning. Fans are in every room, but occasionally it's hot. There are towels galore, beach and bath; and bed linens are provided. The house has 4 bedrooms: 3 upstairs, and 1 on the first floor. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Two bedrooms have a queen bed ea, and the Bunk Room sleeps six kids. The ground floor bedroom has its own bathroom and is next to the kitchen. There is an additional queen bed in the basement which isn't counted in the listing you are more than welcome to. The basement is cool and dark, but not original to the house so its somewhat lacking in traditional Nantucket charm. We can safely assume only teenagers prefer the basement; they, however, absolutely love it. We love dogs, the house has always had dogs, and yours are more than welcome. Other things to note In our opinion, March Hare is a truly wonderful house. Many people have visited, lived, found love, raised kids, had feasts, gotten married, laughed and celebrated in this house. It is not a house for the Finicky and the Fussy, however. We absolutely want you to love your time on Nantucket and our house: if you are looking to rent a showplace of perfection, you should probably go with that other place. Registration Details 019300
