Ready to let the good times roll with friends and family in New Orleans? Then welcome to the Lanaux Mansion! This beautiful historic home sits right where the festive French Quarter meets the famous music clubs of Frenchman Street. Five deluxe suites with private bathrooms, kitchenettes, and luxurious beds sleep up to 16 guests. Enjoy exclusive access, including to our garden courtyards and balconies. Best of all, you’re just steps away from the city’s best entertainment, restaurants, and bars. The Lanaux Mansion consists of three deluxe 1-bedroom suites, one massive 2-bedroom suite, and one separate cottage suite, all with private bathrooms and kitchenettes. RUTHIE’S BALCONY SUITE (Sleeps 2 adults): Second floor + Premiere balcony + Huge bedroom/living area + Sunny kitchenette + Queen pillow-top bed and sofa A special New Orleans gem, Ruthie’s Balcony Suite bears the name of our beloved family matriarch. Vaulted ceilings soar above a huge bedroom/living area, including a spacious sunlit kitchenette and full-sized private bathroom. But it’s the balcony you’ll love most. Overlooking the corner of Esplanade and Chartres, it’s the perfect place to people-watch while enjoying the pot pourri of sounds that drift over from the nearby markets, jazz clubs, and bustling Mississippi waterfront. THE LANAUX 2-BEDROOM SUITE (Sleeps up to 6): Second floor + Two huge separate King bedrooms + balcony + kitchenette + private bathroom with separate entrances Our namesake two-bedroom suite is as beautiful as it is spacious, combining original period architecture with an elegant Parisian theme and all the modern comforts you could want — A/C, wi-fi, smart HDTVs, and more. A private balcony, en-suite bathroom, sunlit atrium kitchenette, and king-sized pillow-tops in separate bedrooms invite you to stay right next door to your friends, yet still enjoy a space of your own. A daybed in the main room sleeps a fifth guest and a futon in the second bedroom can accommodate a 6th if needed. Vaulted 14-foot ceilings soar high above it all, adding to the sense of openness and grandeur. BETH’S BALCONY ESCAPE (Sleeps up to 4): Second floor + courtyard balcony + queen bed + pullout sleeper sofa + large living room + kitchenette with dining nook + private bathroom + private entrance With its airy vaulted ceiling, original hardwood floors, soft tones, and vibrant Big Easy artwork, the “Escape” exudes both calm relaxation and energy. You’ll enjoy the private bathroom (including bathtub) and large kitchenette with dining nook. But even more, we think you’ll love your exclusive balcony overlooking our courtyard — the perfect place to enjoy coffees and cocktails while listening to the chirping of birds and the jazz floating in from the city. Beth’s Balcony Escape is on our second floor and is reached through a private rustic staircase near the back of the main house, but it sits right next to our Lanaux Two-Bedroom Suite if you’d like to open up the doors between them. THE WIELAND SUITE (Sleeps 2): Deluxe 3-room ground-floor suite with extra-large bedroom + Separate kitchenette + Private laundry room + Courtyard access Featuring an enormous vaulted king bedroom and sitting area, a spacious kitchenette with breakfast nook, and even a private laundry room, the deluxe Wieland Suite is one of our largest and best. Enter through an exclusive gate off of Chartres Street and pass right by our garden courtyard — your personal place for relaxed coffees or cocktails — to reach this stylishly decorated oasis on the mansion’s ground floor. SOPHIE’S ENCHANTED COTTAGE (Sleeps 2): Separate cottage + Private fountain courtyard + Large kitchenette + Lots of natural light + Our most quiet and secluded suite Set apart from the main house and featuring its own fountain courtyard, Sophie’s Enchanted Cottage offers an extra layer of quiet and seclusion for those who really want to relax after days and nights of New Orleans fun. The former kitchen storehouse has high ceilings and large windows to let in plenty of natural light, a large kitchenette with a breakfast nook, and a gorgeously renovated bathroom. Whitewashed-brick walls and tastefully rustic decor make it as homey as it is handsome. *ABOUT THE LANAUX MANSION* You might recognize this stately Italianate mansion from "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," just one of the many films and TV shows in which it’s been featured. The house itself is a star, with a fascinating past. But it’s not just its good looks and pedigree that make the Lanaux so attractive. It’s the unbeatable location at the corner of Chartres Street and Esplanade Avenue — which literally straddles the line between the rollicking French Quarter scene and the famous music clubs and jazz dens of Frenchman Street. Standing on its wrought-iron balconies with a julep in your hand, you may hear the blare of trumpets, the drums of a parade, and the whistle of a steamboat rolling down the mighty Mississippi, just blocks away. If you’re lucky, you might even catch sight of a second-line or jazz funeral during your stay here. Built in 1879 by wealthy attorney Charles Andrew Johnson, the house has played host to not only actors and film crews, but to prominent figures of history including southern general Robert E. Lee and others. Some even claim there’s a ghost among its distinguished list of guests. Wallpaper from around the time of the American Civil War still adorns the massive double parlors downstairs, as does much of the home’s original furniture. The vaulted guest-room ceilings soar high overhead. And the decor is a fine mix of classic period architecture and stylish upscale amenities. In 140 years, it has changed owners only four times. Most recently, it was the gregarious and accomplished New Orleanian businesswoman Ruth Bodenheimer who ran the home as a much-loved bed and breakfast for decades until her passing in 2019. Inspired by Ruth’s love for the house and the one-of-a-kind city called New Orleans, her daughter Beth now proudly carries on the legacy of making guests feel welcome and at home here. Whether it’s a romantic cottage getaway for two, or a big group such as a wedding party, you can book just one room or all five of them, plus the gorgeous large dining room and lavish double parlors for special events. Spacious guest rooms have kitchenettes with microwaves and mini-fridges, and all but one have private bathrooms. You’ll come and go as you please through your personal entrance on Esplanade or Chartres streets. Everything here is set up for your comfort and convenience. Welcome to the Big Easy. Welcome to the French Quarter Lanaux Mansion. Grand Lanaux guests have access to their reserved accommodations as well as our lush courtyards. There is ample space for gathering in the courtyards. Nik and I or a member of the Lanaux Team are always available by text. *ABOUT THE LOCATION* Step outside the Lanaux Mansion and cross the street to hit the bars and restaurants of the French Quarter, or walk around the corner to find the myriad music spots on Frenchmen Street. You're about a block from either. Also within a few minutes' stroll are the famous and sprawling French Market, the legendary beignets and coffee of the Cafe du Monde, the beautiful St. Louis Cathedral, and the paddle-wheeled riverboats along the Mississippi waterfront — not to mention more bars, restaurants, museums, curio shops, and art galleries than you could possibly ever visit in one trip. The dream-like settings of Audubon Park and City Park, with their massive moss-covered oaks and glorious mansions lining the nearby avenues, are a short drive or bike ride away. Further afield, you have the deep Louisiana bayous full of gators and cajuns alike, plus historic battlefields and plantations to tour. You couldn’t possibly see and do everything New Orleans has to offer . . . but you can sure have fun trying! So grab a drink and start planning your trip now. Or come with no plan at all. Either way, having a great time in the Big Easy is, well, easy. We are 1.5 blocks from the Riverfront Streetcar, 2 blocks from rental bikes, convenient to RTA minibus transportation. Although cars are not needed in NOLA, there is limited, monitored, 2 hr. parking, on Chartres St. Or 2 Premium Parking fenced lots 1.5 blocks away. Bring comfortable shoes for walking! New Orleans is a very walkable City especially from our location. Transportation is plentiful whether if be by rental bike, streetcar, horse and buggy, Uber or Taxi...all are readily available. If you are visiting in the Spring or Summer, expect some late afternoon pop up showers so poncho, rain coat or umbrella is a good consideration.
