The Avalon is a historic ten-bedroom home, built in 1909, located on Cuttyhunk Island of the cost of Massachusetts. Seven to Nine rooms are available to rent depending upon dates.Whole house and single room rentals are available during our regular season, which runs from mid May through Columbus Day each year. Island life is more of a slow pace and Cuttyhunk is a perfect place to relax, re-coup, and enjoy each moment of life. Aside from it's natural beauty you will find beauty everywhere here. The space When you’re not fishing, you’ll enjoy long walks among the wild flowers, a hike on one of the many beautiful trails out to the island’s West End for some of the best bird watching, a day at the beach, ice cream and a chat on the dock or cool drinks with fresh shellfish on the Avalon porch. If walking isn’t your thing, grab a golf cart...it’s the only other acceptable way to travel on the island. The pace is slow, the air is clean and nightlife is limited to stargazing. Guests at the Avalon will find that the historic charm of the home has been preserved in spite of modernizations necessary to ensure the comfort of visitors. There is a billiard room, a large living room with TV and “boat bar,” a dining room that can seat 12 and a large covered porch overlooking Vineyard Sound with the beacon of Gay Head lighthouse blinking on the far horizon. Most guest bedrooms have private baths with claw-foot tubs; shower baths are also available for guests’ use. Twin, full, queen, and king beds are available and some of the larger rooms can easily accommodate couples with children. We have shared cooking facilities for our guests that include a microwave, coffee pots, fridge and a commercial range in the large country kitchen. Full catering can be arranged for larger parties. We have two hosts that live on-site in a separate suite available for pick up and drop off at the dock upon arrival and departure. They can help with any questions or recommendations on things to do on the island. Everyone is family on our little island. We all work with each other to make island life wonderful, and to give visitors a real perspective on our community. We are laid back, easy going, and all about relaxation. No cars here! Walking and golf carts are the only ways to travel around our little island.
