The space 2 private bedrooms and 1 private bathroom in our charming shotgun house just off the Canal Streetcar line only 2 miles from the French Quarter. Guest area features private entrance, patio, beautiful antique furnishings, 11-foot ceilings, petite chandeliers, comfortable and clean queen beds, and cozy guest robes. Internet, cable TV, oscillating fans, iron, white noise machine, hairdryer, mini-fridge, coffeepot, crockpot, and snacks are provided. The space has a peaceful, airy feel and is flooded with natural light. Parking for one compact vehicle is available in the driveway; ample street parking is also available on our block. This listing is unique in that you have complete privacy from the main house. The guest space has its own exterior door, and you are free to come and go as you please. The room is located down the garden path in the rear of the house. The private guest space provides a mini-fridge and coffeepot. The main kitchen area is shared with your host family, so any plans for cooking should be coordinated with your host. We welcome special requests and will make every effort to assist with needed recommendations. We can also provide a travel crib and other baby items if you wish to travel with your childen. Our home is located in the historic Mid-City neighborhood, which was one of the first neighborhoods to spring back after extensive flooding due to Hurricane Katrina. Mid-City is located, as the name indicates, in the middle of New Orleans on what was once the backslope of the Mississippi River natural levee. Our home was built around 1910 and is a typical New Orleans-style shotgun house. In New Orleans at the time of construction, the shotgun house utilized a minimized lot frontage, on which taxes were based. The houses were also built without hallways and closets, which would have been counted as rooms for tax purposes. The origin of the building style and the name itself may trace back to Haitian influences on New Orleans, as many Afro-Haitian slaves lived in this area. Our house was recently featured on the HBO series "Treme", as the law office of the character Toni Bernette (played by Melissa Leo) and also as part of the interior of the home of Creighton Bernette (played by John Goodman). Guests are free to have complete privacy or to meet with the host as desired to obtain recommendations for food, drink, and attractions. Check-in is offered via a keyless entry with access code. Our home is located just off the parade route for Endymion, the largest parade of Mardi Gras. The festival grounds for Jazz Fest are just over 1 mile away. Guest access Guests have access to the private guest bedroom and private bathroom via a dedicated exterior door. Guests are also free to use any of the outdoor spaces of the home, including the rear patio and the front porch. The kitchen area is the only shared space. The hosts will not enter your space unless stocking your linens, and no other guests stay at the same time. Other things to note A cat and dog live in our family space, but they do not enter the guest space. The host can provide laundry services if needed; feel free to ask! If you require household items, we will be happy to help you. If you would like to drop off your luggage or arrange early checkin or late checkout, we will make every effort to accommodate you if possible. If we are unable to accommodate you, it is typically because another guest will be using the space. Otherwise, we are very flexible. Please let us know your needs when you request to book.
