This modern plantation home offers beautiful views of our bustling organic farm and the Kona coastline beyond. Nestled in a secluded banana grove, this private custom 2 bedroom/2 bath home boasts comfortable Cal King beds, fresh linens, vibrant plants, vintage island furnishings, a well-appointed kitchen, and welcoming outdoor living spaces. You can sample our organic farm produce in a welcome basket, as well as at nearby stores and restaurants a short walk away in Kealakekua village. This contemporary home built in Hawaii's traditional plantation style provides a central base to explore the dynamic Island of Hawaiʻi. Tucked away on a secluded corner of our family's vibrant 5-acre produce and coffee farm, guests enjoy a peaceful private farm stay just minutes away from Kealakekua village. The sunny plant-filled open living area has bamboo flooring, modern rugs, and large windows that look out on banana forest, farm scape, and sweeping ocean views. Bright and well equipped kitchen and dining areas flow seamlessly with the peaceful living room and lounging area on the front lanai. The kitchen adjoins an outdoor living area with secluded yard and grilling area, surrounded by rustic tropical gardens. Bedroom 1 has a large walk-in closet and attached full bath, and bedroom 2 includes a modern work space, ample closet area, and adjacent full bath. Both bedrooms have comfortable California king beds, fresh linens, and large windows looking out on lush tropical private exterior spaces. To accommodate additional guests, the living room can be set up with a queen sofa bed, or arrangements can be made for a portable crib or two folding single futons. Far from the sounds of traffic and commerce, guests are greeted in the morning by birdsong, wild chickens, and the stirrings of farm life. Sunset is heralded by the sound of birds returning to our nearby bamboo grove, and evenings often include a steady jungle chorus of chirping coqui frogs. Private off-street parking adjacent to the house accommodates up to 3 vehicles. Local shops and grocery store, restaurants, bars and other services are less than a mile away. The house is a half a mile from Kona’s main highway and is accessed by a paved one-lane private road that requires polite and careful driving, but requires no special clearance or 4-wheel drive. While this vacation home is situated on a very private corner of our farm, we live just a short walk across the five acre property and are usually readily available if guests need something. That said, you are not likely to see us unless you'd like to! We are typically out and about working on the farm in the morning hours, and available via text on the airbnb platform throughout your stay. In the event our family is away during your visit, another member of our small farm community will be your "go-to" during your stay with us. Kealakekua is a historic farming village located just south of Kailua-Kona, in the hills above stunning Kealakekua Bay. On lush 5-acre Kealaola Organic Farm, you will have exclusive access to a secluded private two-bedroom/two bath home with inviting outdoor living areas. This quiet refuge is within a mile of grocery shopping, restaurants and bars, a hospital, and other local services. Within a 30 minute drive you have access to the lively night life and large stores of Kailua Kona, famed Kealakekua Bay, and the beautiful snorkeling and historic grounds of Puʻuhonua O Hōnaunau. You can experience the bounty of Kealaola Organic Farm at nearby Keʻei Cafe, Cultivate Cafe and Juice Bar, and our local KTA grocers. We are happy to guide you to other locally-owned and sustainably-minded businesses, tour and activity guides, cultural practitioners, and healers. We hope Kealaola Organic Farm provides a perfect base for you to explore Hawai’i “off the beaten path.” We are located in the heart of Kealakekua, with shops, groceries, cafes, bars and restaurants located within a mile or two. The post office, hospital and clinics are also within walking distance. Like much of our volcanic island, the farm is located in steep, hilly terrain and most walks involve an elevation gain. Accessing the ocean, larger box stores, and the island's many attractions all require a vehicle (or tremendous patience with a very limited public transit system). There is a public bus stop nearby, but service is limited. The nearest airport, serving Kona (KOA), is a 35 minute drive from the property (longer with traffic). The area is serviced by taxi, ride share, and some airport shuttles. Private off-street unpaved parking adjacent to the house accommodates up to 3 vehicles. This peaceful restorative space lends itself well to contemplative practices, and yoga mats props are provided for your use. The quiet neighborhood of small farms also lends itself to hill walking and exploring. Nearby beaches offer stunning views and spectacular snorkeling. The house is well stocked with beach gear (towels, beach umbrella, beach blanket, chairs, cooler…). For ocean adventurers, body boards and snorkel gear are available as well. Your hosts produce vibrant organic vegetables and fruit for top island restaurants and local grocery stores. Guests are welcomed with a sampling of local farm bounty, and our produce is available at nearby restaurants and markets as well. While this quiet home enjoys its own secluded corner of the property, guests can also enjoy a birds-eye view as our beautifully-maintained farm bustles with planting and harvest activities, visits from local restaurateurs, and conservation and community efforts.
