This bright, ocean-view retreat is brimming with personality, decked out in colorful island-style decor, with all the comforts for your stay. A suntanning beach, outdoor cafes, farmer's market and live entertainment are all within a short walk. Relax on the custom love seat, enjoy the ocean breezes and tropical views right from your lanai. The space The Kona Islander Inn is a charming plantation-style complex in the heart of Kailua-Kona on the sunny West coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. The studio is up a short flight of stairs on the second floor of the ocean-facing Kauai building (no elevator). The unit has a comfortable queen bed with a topper and a couch that opens into a sleeper-sofa. Ocean breezes and ceiling fans keep the place cool though a small wall-mounted A/C unit is also provided. All linens and towels are supplied for your stay. Enjoy dining in the privacy of your lanai (balcony) while watching tropical sunsets through the swaying palm trees. The well-stocked kitchenette is equipped with an apartment-sized refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, induction cooktop, blender, toaster, glasses, dishes and silverware. The complex has a freshwater pool, comfortable BBQ area and ceremonial tiki torch lighting at night. The beautiful grounds rich with tropical plants, fruit trees and meandering paths are unique, compared to the sparse landscapes and concrete found in many Kona-area condos and hotels. Located in the middle of town, you can walk along Ali'i Drive along the ocean to restaurants, bars, boutiques, Kailua Pier and local beaches. Guest access You will receive a code for our smart door lock via Airbnb messages. Please also register at the front desk to receive key card/s for pool and laundry, map of the premises, and parking pass. Enjoy the Hawaiian sun at the private pool or just across the street at one of the many beaches on the island. The shared pool area has lounge chairs, seating and stainless-steel BBQs for guest use. Full coin-operated laundry facilities are located on site for the convenience of registered guests. With the ocean just steps away and Kailua-Kona’s vibrant energy at your doorstep, you’re perfectly placed to soak up the Big Island’s magic. Other things to note The unit is in the Kauai building, nicely set back from the road and facing the ocean. You may see dolphins or even whales from your cozy lanai (balcony). Across the lushly landscaped lawn, Ali'i drive is popular at certain times of the day. It's Kona's social 'Main Street': a 25 mph 2-lane road with pedestrian paths along the gorgeous coastline. Pedestrians rule - nobody is in a hurry. The studio is perched higher up and somewhat removed from the activity, but if you'd like more privacy, simply close the sliding glass door. The Kona Trolley runs along Ali'i Drive with stops close to the complex. Just look for a Kona Trolley or Hele-On Bus Stop Sign. The open-air trolley is a hassle-free way to explore the town without a car. You can take the trolley or walk to go snorkeling at nearby beaches. Guest parking is free within the complex, with a parking pass provided by the front desk. Please note: There are limited parking stalls which are first come, first serve. Additional parking is available on the street (Kuakini Highway), just a short walk away. This is a no-pets and non-smoking complex. You may smoke in a designated area on the property or across the street. Please try to arrive before 11 pm when the lobby desk closes.
