We are a private 5 acre botanical estate alive with birds & flowers. Lomilomi Hawaiian Massage for our Guests at the Lomi Cabana in our beautiful garden. 20min gorgeous nature walk down our road to Onomea Bay, Donkey Trail Hike, Botanic Gardens and popular Scenic Route. We have a few Airbnb Listings. This is *Studio 'EKAHI*. Onomea Studio 'EKAHI is an airy, well-lit, charming delight. It is sparkling clean & fresh with a quiet peacefulness. •Our guests so enjoy being here on these 5 acres. They often mention that staying at Onomea is a highlight of their visit to Hawai'i Island. •The Studio itself is private & separate from the main home. Guests enter through their own gate towards their private Studio entrance and garden area. •Inside the Studio: Everything you need to feel cozy, pampered and comfortable is right here: Hawaiian cookies, snacks, treats & soft drinks for your welcome. A Keurig coffee maker, a coffee pot, French press, & delicious coffee for your morning wake-up beverage in Hawai'i. A tea kettle & assorted flavorful Hawaiian fruit teas. A microwave. A toaster. A blender for your healthy smoothies - you can buy your fresh, tropical fruit from Downtown Hilo Farmers Market. A refrigerator & top freezer. Large Brita water filter jug in refrigerator. A Reverse Osmosis filtration system provides refreshing drinking water in the kitchenette. A CD player/radio - with a selection of relaxing Hawaiian Music CDs. •Sleep Time & Shower Time: The comfortable queen bed with its elegant cast-iron headboard is adorned with fresh-smelling, crisp-white, high quality 100% cotton linen. Private Bathroom: Soft, fluffy white towels, wash cloths and refreshing toiletries for your shower time. •Beach Time: Beach towels are provided with a cooler bag & cooler blocks. An early morning short walk down our road to the ocean to explore beautiful Onomea Bay & the Botanic Gardens is recommended. Our guests really enjoy this nature walk. •The View: The view from the Studio includes a white pergola and graceful Hapu'u fern garden. Numerous bird feeders in the Hapu'u fern garden cater to the Northern Cardinals, Red-Crested Cardinals, Java Finches, golden Saffron Finches, Nutmeg Mannikins, White Eyed finches, Yellow-Fronted Canaries, Waxbills, Zebra Doves, Spotted Doves. Every morning at sunrise flocks of white Egret birds fly gracefully over the property from the ocean direction towards ma'uka/upcountry farm fields and return back to the ocean area to roost in the evenings. •Also in view is the Koi fish pond & its delightful small waterfall. (A small jar of fish food is in the studio for you to feed the friendly fish). Beyond the pond, is a large, lush-green, landscaped Infinity lawn lined with fragrant magnolia trees & colorful cattleya orchids, complete with an ocean view. •Outdoor Time: Outside the Studio entrance there is a seating area with two comfortable armchairs & side table. Bright blue Adirondack lounger chairs are on the front lawn facing the ocean & Onomea Bay. Perfect for your early morning cup of coffee & Hawaiian sunrise extravaganza. •Onomea Sugar Plantation History: The property & its surrounds has a wonderful history from Hawaii's Sugar Plantation Days of yesteryear. Should this be of interest to you we are happy to talk story about its fascinating history and the vibrant daily life that took place here. •Please note cooking is not permitted inside the studio. We try to keep the space feeling as fresh & clean as possible for you and future guests to enjoy. The microwave is available to heat up the ono/delicious local delicacies from nearby Downtown Hilo. Our guests also enjoy strolling around the Lili'uokalani Gardens in Hilo at sunset and then having their meals at the many restaurants in Hilo. ●Please note: We have cats. Outdoor, well-fed, friendly, peaceful cats. We have an Airbnb authorised Exemption and are unable to accommodate guests with service animals/ESA as our priority is to look after the well-being & care of our rescue cat family. We are a 10min drive up the Hāmakua coast from Hilo, and a 4min drive/15min walk to the ocean, Onomea Bay & Botanic Gardens. Guests who stay with us usually visit: Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls, Boiling Pots, Carlsmith Beach Park, Volcano National Park, Waipio Valley, Mauna Kea & Hilo." 🌿 Guests have walking access to the Koi fish pond area & the garden in front of their studio entrance. We live in Onomea -which in the Hawaiian language means 'best place'. Onomea is between Papaikou and Pepeekeo and a 10 minute drive from Hilo. Here is a list of places and the approximate driving times to get to there from where we are: Hilo International Airport 11 miles - 18 min. Downtown/old style Hilo 7 miles - 10 min. Coffee shops, restaurants, the old Palace Theater, book stores with wonderful books on Hawaiian culture & history. Antiques stores, museums, local art galleries. Hilo Farmers Market. Downtown Hilo is a old style Hawai'i. Lili'uokalani Park & Gardens 8.3 miles - 13 min. 24 acres of Japanese gardens built in 1917-1919 and said to be the largest such gardens outside of Japan. Honoli'i Beach Park 5.2 miles -8 min. Best surf spot in Hilo. Hawaii Tropical Botanic Gardens 1 mile - 4 min. Sit on a bench in this tropical garden and look onto Onomea Bay. Imagine the ships of yesteryear being loaded with sugar from the mill. Delicious fruit Moku Pops available at the Botanic gardens' store. Akaka Falls 8.4 miles - 15 min. 442ft of cascading water. The easy 0.4 mile loop footpath is amongst lush tropical vegetation. Carlsmith Beach Park & Richardson's Beach Park 11 miles - 18 min. Clear, aqua ocean water. Protected & safe area to swim. See the resident turtles. Further afield: Mauna Kea mountain - Visitor Information Station 57 miles - 1 hr 30 min. Is accessible to normal 2 wheel drive. Above the Visitor Information Station a 4-wheel drive vehicle is required. Mauna Kea is a sacred Hawaiian site. Beautiful sunsets to the west and full moon rises in the east. Incredible night skies for stargazing. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park 37 miles - 51 min. Hikes, Nahuku/Thurston Lava Tube, Petroglyphs, Halema'uma'u crater, steam vents. Waialea Beach. 61 miles - 1 hr 20 min. This shaded white sand beach is a popular snorkeling spot It's also known as Beach 69 because this was the number of the telephone pole at the turn. Aim to be there at low tide. You will need to hire a car to explore the wonders of 'Moku o Keawe' - Hawai'i Island. 🪷MASSAGE THERAPY in The Lomi Cabana : Rejuvenating Lomilomi Hawaiian Massage appointments are available to our guests at the on site Lomi Cabana. This service is an extra & separate fee from your Airbnb accommodation reservation and is to be paid on site after your treatment. ●Two appointment times are available in the mornings for Individual or Couples Massage.
