Luna means 'above' in Hawaiian. It's the upstairs studio apartment in a converted barn on a 5 acre farm set back from the road amidst greenery and privacy. There's citrus, macadamia, starfruit, papaya. The laundry room next to Luna's entrance is shared by the downstairs studio guests. Access to the pool, which is covered when not in use, is available through the owner. Being upstairs, Luna favors the light. The window seat looking out on the pool & garden makes a great nest for reading, or an extra bed. The stairs and floor are well insulated to keep incidental sounds from neighbors at a minimum. It's a great sanctuary in itself, or a calm place to return at the end of a day's activities. Beach chairs, umbrellas & cooler are available for outings. Books include local history and areas of interest. There's a small TV and wifi for streaming and/or staying in touch with the outside world. My policy is to be on property whenever guests stay here. I will be available to settle guests in, answer questions & facilitate pool access. Hawi's an old plantation town, now famous for being the turnaround point for the annual Ironman Triathlon. Local features include B.I.G. Skydiving, Flumin' the Ditch and Zipline. Kohala Coffee Mill is world class. Saturday market under the banyans. Sushi Rock & Bamboo Restaurant in town. Birthplace of King Kamehameha and Hawai'is oldest heiau nearby. Local bus service 1.5 miles away in Hawi Town. But it is best to rent a car for access to Kohala coastline and historic sites such as Mo'okini Heiau and Pololu Valley. 30 miles from Waimea town and 30 miles from Kawaihae and best beaches on the island. The property can be very dark after sunset, especially when there's no moonlight. It's important to let me know arrival time so we can leave lights on if necessary. BUGS. ANTS. MOSQUITOES. ETC. Pest treatment is administered quarterly by SmartPest, who use safe materials, none-toxic, such as orange oil based products. Heads Up! There WILL BE evidence of bugs, since this is Hawai'i, Kohala, and doors get left open, food gets left out. Bugs are even more in evidence after heavy rainfalls and/or storms. AIR CONDITIONING There is none. Most of the time the trade winds take care of ventilation and fresh air, but sometimes, when the wind is blowing from the other direction, or not at all, it can be muggy. There's an overhead fan, which might help. I can provide a standing fan, which might help.
