Description
NOW WITH A STOVE. Enjoy a private 1,300-square-foot apartment in Hopewell’s historic Chocolate Factory. This 1890s industrial building was converted to live-work space by Johnson Atelier artists. In famously friendly Hopewell Borough, walk to beloved restaurants, shops, land preserves, and Sourland hiking. Drive 7 miles to Princeton and its trains to Philly & NYC. Drive 10 miles to Lambertville, 11 to New Hope. Owner-host lives in building. LGBTQ friendly? Indubitably. The space According to my kind guests, time spent here is dulcet. The apartment is well-stocked and aesthetically pleasing, with its own entrance through a private garden. Inside find 1,300 square feet with high ceilings, exposed brick, and large windows in every room. The windows are all the original glass but have been insulated and rebuilt to open easily. Floor plan includes one bedroom with high-quality bed for two; quiet study flooded with morning sun; huge living and dining room with table to seat six; bathroom with full tub/shower; and kitchen with full-size fridge, 2-burner gas stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee machine, electric kettle, and full-size clothes washer & dryer. There is no full-sized oven; to cook a 6-course meal here would be tricky. In the closet is an air mattress and spare bedding, to accommodate children or friends. Just notify me of the guest total. Please note, the building is 130 years old and was originally a factory. It has its quirks. For instance the floor in the living/dining room and bedroom is painted concrete with a louche look. Nevertheless, the apartment is warm in winter and cool in summer. You’re not here to suffer. Furniture is vintage Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Arts & Crafts, and mid-century modern. No reproductions, no particle board. The furniture is real. The art is real. The hostess is real. I give you total privacy, but if you need help I’m on the premises and at your service. Guest access The apartment pictured is your private space. Outside your front door you also have a patio that is for your exclusive use. You may park one vehicle on the property’s driveway and any number of others on the street directly in front of the building. For Tesla electric vehicles, 18-amp charging is available right on the driveway. You will need to let me know and pay a per-hook-up fee. Other things to note CHILDREN are welcome. I provide an air mattress, bedding, books, and toys for them. Just let me know how many people will be spending the night. I also welcome DOGS, and Hopewell has lots of preserved open space and hiking trails that are a joy for them. I provide a big bowl of water and a stack of old towels. You might want to bring a pet bed, toys, and crate. Please don’t leave your dog alone in the apartment unless you use a crate AND you’re sure there won’t be nuisance barking. I can recommend a local dog-sitter if need be. It’s ok if pups express a few opinions—why shouldn’t they?—but if they bark and bark and bark I have to call you and you must return to your pooch. We want to be courteous of the neighbors. Finally, I’m sorry but I can’t accept cats. I love them but I lack feline toileting facilities.
