Calhau Gîte, family getaway with ocean view

Cottage Calhau is a typical Madeiran stone house with its own private garden and a fantastic ocean view. It is a lovely rural refuge to spend some time relaxing with family or friends in our beautiful island. Being in Calhau’s garden you will feel the calmness of the air breeze, the immensity of the ocean and a true peace of mind you will always remember. The space Cottage Calhau belongs to Calhau Grande, a group of 8 typical self-catering cottages in Arco da Calheta with breath-taking panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean. It is a simple and genuine haven for those looking for a quiet escape and a real experience of Madeira Island’s lifestyle. Deployed on private terraces, the rustic oceanfront cottages, which have been carefully and eco-friendly restored with love and care by our Family Gouveia, suit the natural environment and are surrounded by tropical gardens. You can feel the smell of the flowers, relax by the swimming pool, enjoy wonderful sunsets and discover our agricultural land with fruit trees, vegetables and aromatic herbs. It is a familiar, romantic and peaceful place away from the stressful city living! Inside the property, there is a swimming pool, shared by the 8 cottages. Cottage Calhau is on the terrace immediately above the swimming pool level and has a large balcony over it. It is an ample 2-bedroom family house with two stories. On the ground floor it has a cosy living space, a kitchen and a bathroom. On the upper floor, there are two separate bedrooms sharing a bathroom. Each bedroom can accommodate two persons in a double size bed (1,50m x 2,00m). Outside, the guests can take advantage of an outdoor kitchenette/barbecue, with a private porch with table and chairs that are for the exclusive use of this house. The house has an excellent sun exposure, facing south and a fantastic view over the swimming pool and the ocean. Also enjoys a colourful garden with flowers and fruit trees. Calhau Grande is the sharing result of our rural experience in Madeira. You are warmly invited to live it with us! Guest access Inside the property, next to our main gate, we have a free parking spot to this cottage. For those who feel uncomfortable driving up the sloped road that gives access to our property, it is also possible to park on the free public parking places on the main road (about 100 meters away from our main gate). The cottage can be accessed by outdoor stairs that connect it directly to the property entrance and pool level. There is a private entrance to the cottage. You'll have the cottage to yourself. All our cottages have its own private space and garden so that all guests can feel completely relaxed, in their own privacy, just like at home. Guests can also access all our common gardens, paths and swimming pool area. Other things to note Calhau Grande is located on a hill and comprises beautiful terraced gardens and balconies with great views. To enjoy this wide ocean view and to overcome the height differences, we have outdoor stairs and steps in the garden. Tip: travel light. Still, Cottage Calhau is on the second level of the property, immediately above the parking area, so it is accessed only by two flights of stairs. Registration Details Exempt
