Cabanère, the refuge

Nestled at an altitude of 900 meters, Cabanère offers panoramic views of Luz-Saint-Sauveur and its valley. Accessible by a 500-meter track and surrounded by 4 hectares of meadow, it guarantees calm, privacy and total disconnection. Having retained all the charm of its traditional architecture, it invites you to an authentic and warm break, perfect for lovers of mountains and simplicity. Although isolated, it is only a 10-minute drive from the center of Luz. The space A 100% autonomous sheepfold designed for a stay in the heart of nature: • Electricity: solar panels with batteries and generator (automatic system) • Hot water: gas water heater, connected to a bottle (located at the back of the house) • Heating: exclusively wood (35kw stove) • Water: public spring water • Sanitation: septic tank • Access: 500 m carriage track (gravel, sand, castine) The layout of the spaces: Total area: 160 m² – generous volumes and warm atmosphere Ground floor: A large open living room/kitchen, 2 master suites and a toilet Floor: A large open space at the top welcoming a mezzanine bedroom (on the kitchen) and at the other end a large dormitory and a bathroom/toilet. Bedding: 2 beds of 140 (parental suites), 1 bed of 160 (in the mezzanine), 4 beds of 90 (in the dormitory). Sheets are provided. Important to know: The self-sufficient lifestyle involves some adjustments: 🚫 No microwave, rotating heat oven, freezer, dishwasher, toaster or washing machine 🔥 The wood burning stove is the only heating method – it heats the whole house efficiently, but needs to be fed regularly. Guest access Access to Cabanère: some useful tips: ⛰️ Mountain road: for your comfort and safety, it is strongly recommended to arrive before dark, unless you are used to driving on high-altitude tracks. 🚗 Last section: access to the sheepfold is via a 500 m carriageable track, passable by vehicle (see photos to get an idea). This track is composed of gravel, sand and castine. ️ ℹ️ Check traffic conditions before your departure, especially on the Gorges de Pierrefitte road, sometimes closed due to works or landslides: 👉 luz .org /en/practical-information/transport-access 🚶‍♀️ Walking distance: For walkers, the sheepfold is within walking distance of the center of Luz-Saint-Sauveur via an old mule track. ⏱️ Allow about 30 minutes of ascent (300 m elevation gain) – the descent is a little faster. Other things to note 👨‍👩‍👧 Capacity The sheepfold is designed to accommodate up to 10 people, including adults, children and babies. This threshold guarantees the comfort of everyone as well as the proper functioning of the autonomous facilities. 🔥 Firewood (optional) The heating of the house is done exclusively with wood. Wood is not included in the rental, but can be provided upon request: ¼ cubic meter: €30 ½ cubic meter: €60 1 cubic meter: €120 💡 To be adapted according to the season and the duration of your stay.
