Church apartment: Heavenly Sleep in Jirnsum

Welcome to our Mauritiuskerk Residence (1877) in the heart of Friesland! We renovated our church in Jirnsum ourselves. Each studio in the church tower has its own kitchen and bathroom. Our guests love the comfortable beds, green surroundings, and central location. Sustainability is important to us. The Kraak Studio is the largest apartment. We rent out for short or long stays to both tourists and business guests. Did you know you can visit 5 UNESCO World Heritage sites within an hour? The space Our church combines history with comfort. The Kraak church studio/apartment is located where the church organ once stood. Today, a modern kitchen stands between old church pillars and ornaments. The wooden floor is the original church floor, which we have restored. The church studio is fully equipped with all comforts and features a fully furnished kitchen with an induction cooktop, oven, dishwasher, kettle, and a Nespresso coffee machine. The kitchen includes all essentials such as plates, cutlery, pots, baking paper, and dishwasher tablets. Coffee and tea are complimentary. The studio apartment is on the first floor of the church tower. The bathroom is located next to the sleeping area with a double bed. Adjacent is a library that can be used as a separate living room. Here, you can read, work, or play games. Want to watch TV, a movie, or YouTube? Bring your iPad or tablet – our WiFi is free. Our guests are welcome to use our south-facing church garden. We have several seating areas, a picnic table, and a hammock. We designed the garden ourselves – feel free to pick fresh mint, lemon balm, or other herbs for a delicious cup of tea. We try to reuse as many items from the church as possible. For example, the headboard of the bed is made from an old church door. The double mattress is new – and we receive many compliments on it (we didn’t cut corners here!). Guests can take a guided tour of our church house and tower. The church clock from 1488 is turned off in the evening. The Kraak Studio is suitable for two people. For an additional fee, a (baby) or toddler bed can be provided. Want to stay in our church with friends? Rent the entire church tower! Our Pelgrim Studio on the ground floor also accommodates two guests. By staying with us, you support Dutch and Frisian heritage. All proceeds go directly toward the maintenance of the church. The first floor of the Kraak Studio was once the church gallery where the organ stood (in Frisian: "de Kreake", the gallery or balcony for the organ or choir). Until 2010, a classic 16th-century Van Dam organ was located here, which was sold after the church closed. It has been restored and now stands in the Dorpskerk in the municipality of Zoeterwoude in the Randstad. In our Kraak Studio, you will find a photo of the restored organ, which is played every Sunday in Zoeterwoude.
