Description

Iris is a charming single-level cottage with high ceilings and an appealing interior full of light, just 15 minutes walk from the beach or the village. One half of an old coach house, now part of a unique holiday retreat at 15th Century Trenoweth Manor in an idyllic, secluded woodland setting close to the sea and the South-West coastal path, it's perfect for a couple. Can can also be booked with an additional bedroom or alongside adjoining cottage Myrtle, to sleep groups of four to eight. The space Trenoweth is nestled less than a mile from the sea and the stone-built coach house houses two cottages, Iris and Myrtle - both offering a chance to unwind in a blissful rural-coastal environment. With high ceilings and pared down country-style interiors, an easy blend of mainly vintage and simple antique furnishings has been used in combination with quality soft furnishings and beds to create individual and inviting holiday homes for a memorable staycation. A peaceful place to simply ‘be’ - or a perfect base from which to explore and enjoy this sensational and vibrant part of Cornwall. Iris has a pretty south facing living room with an open-plan kitchen area. It's an airy room with a high ceiling and a lovely aspect over the central lawned garden, towards the main Georgian style façade of the manor house itself. There is a very comfortable sofa with plump feather cushions, and a vintage scrubbed-pine table for character. We think this is a nice room to relax in, just reading, planning a country walk, chatting over a tasty supper or cosying up in front of a film. The kitchen area is compact but is set up with enough tools for rustling up a light lunch or a full supper - so if you love to practice your cooking skills while you're away and want to make the most of the local produce, you should find what you need. The bedroom is attractively furnished, with a five foot Victorian brass and iron bedstead and hand made mattress, dressed with pure cotton bed linen and good quality duvet/pillows. There is a shower room with wide tiled shower, basin and wc (please note, no bath). Trenoweth itself is a delightful setting with extensive grounds. There's a broad central lawn between the cottages and the manor house with a mellow teak bench where our guests can soak up the peace and quiet, sitting beneath the magnificent fig tree, as well as a table and chairs for those sunny days. We haven't created individual dedicated gardens because the grounds around the cottages lend themselves to a more versatile setup - there are numerous areas where guests can sit out or picnic under the trees. Iris and adjoining Myrtle are also an ideal option for two families/two generations or sets of friends who want to share a holiday with independent space, in which case consider booking together and we can also set up one large garden table and chairs so that meals can be enjoyed together. Our guests are invited to stroll through the pretty woodland, thickly carpeted with bluebells in springtime. This is somewhere to escape the hustle and bustle, revel in being outdoors in nature and enjoy simple pleasures; watch the skies and tides, walk, talk, read, and indulge in beautiful food created from the best ingredients the land and the sea has to offer. You will find endless opportunities to re-charge your mind and relax – or to be dizzyingly active with surfing, wind-surfing, paddle-boarding and kayaking on the protected eastern shores of the Lizard, diving, riding and golf all on offer, and of course sailing, fishing, wild swimming and great countryside to explore by bike. Guest access You will have the cottage to yourself; and there is a small shared laundry room to the other side of the parking area in case you have an emergency and need to do a wash during your stay. Other things to note A few details and home truths to note ... Pure cotton bed linen and towels are provided for you, with good quality duvets and pillows. We ask that you bring your own beach towels, please do not use our bathroom towels for the beach or outside. Please note, as previously mentioned that there is no washing machine in the cottage; however, in case you have an emergency or for guests staying a week or longer, there is a washing machine available in a small shared laundry room off the far side of the parking area. The kitchen has a cooker with oven, separate grill and electric hob, fridge and microwave. Kettle, toaster, cafetière, plenty of pots and pans and essentials like a salad spinner and salt/pepper grinders. We will leave you a little welcome basket which will include some basics like tea, coffee, good bread and a bottle of lovely local milk (please leave the bottle for us to return to the shop). Note there is no dishwasher as the kitchen area is compact. Flat screen TV with FreeSat channels, DVD player. There's plenty of room for you to park on the drive, and we have handy outside taps for washing off wellies and muddy paws when it’s wet! Well behaved dogs allowed by prior arrangement at an additional charge of £45 per dog/per week or short break. Please include details of your pet with your booking request as the cottage may not be suitable for all dogs. Please make sure all paws remain on the floor, pets must not be allowed on the furniture or beds and must not be left unattended in the cottage. We ask you to bring your own dog towels. Please note: You won't get a good mobile signal at the house (in fact quite likely no signal at all), however, you can use WiFi Calling or otherwise you may have to walk to the top of the drive or beyond if you want to catch up with the office. There is so much to do and see while you’re here and most of our visitors have been thrilled by the slightly enforced detox so you might not want to waste time on your phone - but you do need to be aware in advance! The WiFi signal is not the strongest (due to the thick stone walls) but has worked well for all our guests so far including some who have needed to make Zoom calls for work!
