The Garden Room in the West End of Newcastle
Description
Our ground floor flat is part of a large semi-detached house on a quiet leafy street to the west of the city centre. The garden room is huge, light and airy with a massive window looking on to the garden & fields behind. Nearby we have well stocked food shops, restaurants & takeaways. Regular buses to town in about 10 minutes or you can walk over the fields in about 20-30. This is an open and inclusive house, welcoming to all guests regardless of race, sexuality, gender or religion. The space The garden room is a large double bedroom with a massive window looking on to the garden. It really is huge at 18.6m2. The room has a double bed, table, armchair and wardrobe and chest of drawers as well as a well stocked bookcase and lots of plants. We also have a futon company cube bed, which is great for an extra person, be that adult or child. The garden is shared with the upstairs flat, and together we keep chickens. Our current hens are getting on a bit, so they no longer lay eggs but spend their days happily pottering around the garden. There’s also a trampoline, which guests are welcome to use - just please do so at your own risk. Guest access Guests are welcome to make use of the kitchen, bathroom, living room, dining room and garden during their stay. Please note, we are a vegetarian household so ask guests to keep the cooking of meat to a minimum. During your stay We’re both busy working people. My office is elsewhere in the city, and the nature of my job means I’m not always immediately contactable. I’ll always let you know when to expect me to be around or available for questions, and my working week means that I can sometimes be based at home for part of the day. When we can, we enjoy getting to know our guests. I’ve been hosting since 2017 and have held Superhost status throughout. I took a break in October 2024 and am reopening the room for bookings from early 2026. I’ve really missed having guests and look forward to welcoming people back into my home. Other things to note We already share our house with one cat, Orik. He is very friendly and absolutely loves visitors - he's chatty and demanding of affection. Orik turned 12 last Christmas (2025). In the summer he spends a lot of time outdoors chatting with the neighbours or sleeping under a bush, winter he's more likely to be found curled up somewhere indoors. He likes to loudly announce himself whenever he returns home. The garden room is generally out of bounds for him, but his presence in the house may mean that this is not the best house for anyone allergic to our furry friends.
