The space The Kothi is ideally located in the heart of a village—Nawapind Saradarn—in Punjab, India. An hour’s drive away from Amritsar, a farmhouse with a turn of the century flavor, surrounded by lush agricultural pastures and is a stroll away from a canal. The house retains its character of a traditional Punjabi kothi—a house built with a blend of Punjabi vernacular and colonial building vocabulary. Equipped with modern day facilities, including rooms with attached bathrooms—hot and cold water, both traditional and modern kitchen, a television and internet connectivity. All the rooms have views of the garden and with direct access to the central courtyard of the house. The double bedded rooms have private sit out balconies for a quiet evening. One can choose from the wide platter of the local cuisine. Garden fresh fruits and vegetables to sarson da sag & makki di roti straight out of tandoor. The meals are served as a buffet—in the dining room or a quiet sit down close to the chulah in the traditional kitchen or in the sunny outdoors. Before a big day at the farm or sightseeing, enjoy a hearty breakfast prepared using variety of fresh vegetables and ingredients from our kitchen garden. The local cuisine features mostly rustic vegetarian food, but we also prepare non-vegetarian dishes on request. Dishes like matar paneer, dal makhani, saag are favorites across the country. Enjoy rich heritage of Punjab and discover all its secrets. In the heart of the village, take a tour of the village and participate in the dailty activities or travel the country side to visit heritage sites within an hours radius of the village. Other things to note The village was founded by Sardar Bishen Singh Singhpuria in the late 19th century. The family had migrated from village Singhpura which is located near the historic town of Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district. The village was established by the family who were agriculturist and later went into construction industry. The entire village community was settled by the family in this newly established village. The village today is approximately of 600 people from various communities. The Kothi was built by Sardar Beant Singh who was the son of Sardar Bishen Singh. Nawanpind Sardaran village is true to its rustic roots and unique cultural ethos, which remain untouched from rampant urbanization. The distance from the main highway and proximity to the canal discourages city life from trickling in. With its low height buildings, lush woody setting (parcels of land between the canal road and village along the entire length of the road) and vast turfs of agricultural pastures, the village experience is one to keep.
