The space This beautiful and sharply restored apartment is on the top floor of a historical palace of Siena, Palazzo Saracini, almost a thousand years old. The owners still live in the palace. From November 20th 2011 the old elevator has been completely changed and now it's brand new and perfectly working. The Palazzo Saracini main entrance opens in the heart of Siena, the “Via di Città” street. From there, all the tourist sites are at no more than five minutes walk: the Piazza Del Campo is just behind the palace, Palazzo Chigi-Saracini and the Duomo are almost around the corner, so you won't use car until you leave. During the days of the famous 'Palio' (the oldest horse race in the world, July 2nd and August 16th) it is possible to watch the race directly from a window of the family property or to have dinner in a 'contrada', to taste the unique atmosphere of these days. The morning of the Palio day is run the sixth trial, also called the 'Provaccia', preceded by the Mass for the jockeys, which is celebrated in the Piazza del Campo. In the afternoon, in the church of each contrada partecipating in the Palio, the benediction of the horse takes place. Following this, the 'Comparse' or contrada members dressed in the historical costumes of their contrada meet in the Prefettura (near the Cathedral) which is where the historical parade leaves from it to reach the Piazza del Campo. The historical parade is about 2 hours long. Is possible to see the historical parade from the streets and especially from the two windows of the apartment. Keep in mind that there are large crowds and the streets are very narrow, so it would be perfect to watch the parade directly from your apartment! Even in the noisy nights of Palio you will be able to sleep well, even if you are in such a strategic point in the city.
