Description

Tarr Cottage boasts one of the best views on the North Devon coast and is the perfect base from which to explore Exmoor. The South West Coast Path is accessed just round the corner and the cliff railway to Lynmouth is only a few hundred metres away. The property has high speed WiFi throughout the house and we have even set the place up with sky TV for those days in. Free private parking with undercover bays. Newly installed wood fire hob tub looking over the sea. The space This page relates to the entire property but it can be separated for couples/smaller groups. Please check out the listings for more information about the separate properties: Remarkable 3 bed house in Lynton and Ocean View.
Unusually for Lynton, there is plenty of parking in the gated yard, and the covered parking area has an allocated space. Lockable storage for bikes, surfboards etc. is available. The South West Coast Path is just round the corner and the cliff railway to Lynmouth is only a few hundred metres away.   The cosy lounges overlook the Bristol Channel across to the Welsh mountains, the imposing sea cliffs of Countisbury and the wooded Lyn Valley leading to Watersmeet. In the main house, the large kitchen is equipped with a Lacanche range cooker, fridge freezer, washing machine and coffee machine.  This leads into the lounge where you can relax and read a book from our well-stocked shelves or watch TV with Sky, Netflix and a DVD player. For the colder months, there is a beautiful, cast iron Gaudin stove.  There is fast wifi throughout the property. Upstairs, there is a large family bathroom with a deep copper and tin bath and a waterfall shower.  This bathroom is shared by the smaller double bedroom (with the best views in the house!) and the twin room (which can also be made up as a double – please just ask when booking).  The master bedroom has a vaulted, oak-beamed ceiling, hand-built oak wardrobes, an en-suite bathroom with waterfall shower and a fantastic view across the village to the hills beyond. Letting the whole property gives a versatile space for larger groups with 2 lounge areas, 2 kitchens and 3 bathrooms altogether. In the rear part of the property, the second kitchen is equipped with a fridge freezer, hob, double oven/grill and washing machine and leads into the lounge where you can relax and read a book from our well-stocked shelves or watch TV with Sky, Netflix and a DVD player. The sofa can be made into a small double bed (this is perhaps best suited to one adult or two children if they’re happy to share!) and for colder evenings, there is a cosy, wood fired stove. There is fast wifi throughout the property. The light, airy king size bedroom has double aspect over the channel and woods, and the en-suite shower room boasts a waterfall shower.  Outside there is a beautiful limestone patio with seating, surrounded by a glass balustrade and flower beds. There is additional space available for BBQs and a fire pit for colder evenings outdoors. We have a wood fire hot tub that looks over the ocean, truly perfect for relaxing with a glass of champagne. All logs are included plus some outdoor towels. If you would the hot tub heated on arrival, there would be an additional fee of £30.
The wood-fired stoves in the property for your use and logs are available from the hardware shop a few doors away, either of the village stores or the petrol station at Barbrook.   We provide a welcome pack with some essentials such as dishwasher tablets, and there will be tea, coffee and sugar for you to use.  Hotel quality white cotton bedding is used throughout.   Tarr Cottage was lovingly renovated by our family and we re-used as much material as possible in the build.  It was important to us that the property was as efficient and as carbon neutral as it could be.  We have solar thermal panels for hot water, solar PV for electricity and an air source heat pump.  The house is super-insulated and has low-output underfloor heating throughout.  To help the system function as efficiently as possible, we would be grateful if guests don’t leave windows open and don’t try to adjust the thermostats – these are set to keep the property at a comfortable temperature throughout.  If you have any questions, please contact the host who will be happy to help.
