Nestled against a hillside, at the end of a small city lane, sits a charming cottage waiting your escape. Park in your private space, walk down to a unique retreat high above the city and enjoy old world charm with modern amenities. Walk to Historic Cumberland, enjoy local and regional attractions, or stay in and grill, build a fire, or play board or yard games. Small and cozy, yet well appointed, fully equipped, and with a beautiful view, come hideaway in this one of a kind location. The Hideaway is located near a wooded area. You may see deer, squirrels, and other wildlife in the woods behind the house, or in the backyard. This is an entire small house with a private entrance. Guests have use of the entire house and outdoor areas which include; a back yard, garden and green spaces, small front and back porches with seating, and a private patio with a firepit and park style, charcoal grill (wood and charcoal provided.) The Hideaway is perfect for social distancing. Coffee, tea, water, and snacks are provided on arrival. The hideaway is small, but can sleep 7 with 2 queen size beds, a queen size sleeper sofa and a twin size floor mattress that can be placed in one of the bedrooms. Please be aware that due to this home's unique hillside location, it is not handicap accessible because of the stairs needed to access it. Parking (for 1-2 cars) is located on property. Stairs are well lit for nighttime use. Additional street parking nearby. Feel like you are outside the city while being within walking distance to Historic Downtown Cumberland! The Hideaway is located in a quiet, spacious, wooded, residential area on a dead end street. There is space and privacy fencing between the few homes in the neighborhood. It is also very well lit. One other property is another Airbnb (The Cottage on the Hill) which can be rented along with the Hideaway, for private access to the full area, parking and grounds. Your hosts, who live across the street and further up on the hill, are close enough to help when needed, yet far enough away to allow you privacy and space. There is ample free parking and many garden areas\green spaces to enjoy. There is a small deli, convenience store, market and department store close by. You can walk to the historic district pedestrian mall, Canal Place, Scenic Railroad, C & O Canal tow path and the Rails to trails biking and hiking trail. It is just off I 68 and close to Rocky Gap State Park and Casino, Allegany College, UPMC Western Maryland Health System, and Constitution Park. In the region you can find Deep Creek Lake, New Germany State Park, and many other attractions. There is free private off street parking for 1-2 cars (depending on size) and additional free street parking near by. There is also private space to secure bicycles. Any city location can be easily reached by your car. Many historic sites are within walking distance, keep in mind the Hideaway is located on a hill and there are stairs to access it. There is a bus route, but it is limited as it circulates every hour on the hour. Cabs are available. While hosts live across the street, they are located further up on the hillside and will not enter the property while you are present unless you request assistance. While our check in time has been moved back to 5PM due to the more extensive cleaning needed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we welcome all early check in or late check out requests and will gladly honor them if we are able. If we are initially unable to honor your request, we are also willing to notify you the day of your check in (or check out) if things change.
