Heron’s Rest. Waterside cottage on Exmoor.

Heron’s Rest sits directly on the banks of the East Lyn river in the small hamlet of Rockford. The cottage is directly opposite the 17th century Rockford Inn, a characterful Exmoor pub/hotel. In normal circumstances the Inn is open for lunchtime and evening meals, but in low season opening times do vary. One mile up the river is another fine Exmoor Inn, The Staghunters. The cottage has direct access on to The Coleridge Way, and many other footpaths. The space Heron’s Rest is ideally located to explore the beauty of Exmoor. The network of footpaths in close proximity will either take you down the East Lyn river to Watersmeet, or further on to the coastal village of Lynmouth. For the more energetic, take one of the paths up to The Blue Ball Inn on the South West Coast Path. Or in the other direction, up to the wild beauty of Brendon Common. Other things to note Heron’s Rest is a dog friendly cottage with tiled floors throughout. We allow one dog, but are willing to discuss the option of two small breeds. No dogs on furniture or bedding though please. I will also point out that Heron’s Rest is positioned in a small, remote hamlet. Despite there being two Inns within a mile of the cottage, the nearest shops for any daily provisions are in Lynton and Lynmouth, which are approx 5 miles from Heron’s Rest. We provide a small carton of milk and generous amounts of tea and coffee upon your arrival.
