Rustic Yurt- Choose Your Own Adventure!

At 4,000 feet, we offer rustic accommodations that include Ulan Bator, our concentric yurt, and a shower shack located a short walk up a lighted path. With scenic views and remote tranquility just feet below the highest point in West Virginia, visitors have the opportunity to cross-country ski, snowshoe, sled, or simply enjoy the luxury of solitude. This is the perfect getaway for winter wilderness adventurers. VISITORS MUST HIKE, SKI OR SNOWSHOE IN DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER EVENTS. The space Right now, we are only booking one party at a time to stay at our facility, so you will be the only guests up there. Ulan Bator is the center (literally and figuratively) of the Spruce Knob Mountain Center campus. During winter months we generally take a break from programming and allow the campus to hibernate. This is charming and fun, but also implies that you may need to hike, ski or snowshoe into the place, carrying all your personal supplies including food. Guest access You will have access to the main campus: main yurts, bath house, dorms, and 2 guest yurts. In addition to a full-size bed in the aerie of the main yurt (a small open-doored yurt within the library), we offer guests the option of staying in the dorms. There are two sets of dorms with four rooms filled with twin-sized beds and bunkbeds. In addition to the flat rate for the first 4 guests, we charge $30for each additional person. Facility details listed below: Kitchen -fully equipped with cooking oil and a large variety of spices -includes all kitchen appliances, such as a microwave, two ovens, a gas stove, and a stainless steel three compartment sink -surrounded by a small dining hall featuring four tables and benches (unheated) Library  -characterized by a double bed, large propane stove, dining area, rocking chair, window-facing desks, and as many books as your heart desires -features a four-step ladder leading to the Aerie, a sleeping space with a double bed enclosed in an open-door yurt. The Aerie also includes a star gazing window— perfect place for astronomy lovers on a cold winter night. Bathhouse -includes two separate sides, each containing three showers and four toilets -electric heating on each side -towels -toilet paper, soap  Dormitories -two buildings housing up to 40 total people -bunk beds with twin mattresses -bedding provided This is 400 acres nestled in nearly a million acres of the Monongahela National Forest. Other things to note It can be really cold and snowy here! Access is on foot once the road is covered with snow. During major snow events the county may be slow to plow the access road leading to the main gate, too, so folks should be prepared to be in a place where nature is still in charge.
