Lake Wateree was created by the damming of the Wateree River in 1920 and is one of the oldest man-made lakes in SC. It is located about 30 miles northeast of Columbia, just east of I-77. The lake is owned and managed by Duke Power and is surrounded by three counties: Fairfield, Kershaw, and Lancaster. It is known for crappie, bass, catfish and bream. With more than 13,000 surface acres and 242 miles of shoreline, the lake is a year-round favorite of campers, fishermen and recreational boaters.
