Description

Dating back to 1850, this quaint white-washed Anglesey cottage is close to the beautiful coastline including magical Llanddwyn Island, an area of outstanding natural beauty and Newborough forest. A real hidden gem, Pen y Gamfa is tucked away down a pedestrian pathway. This charming cottage comprises a lounge and bedroom area. An Aga woodburner with Welsh slate surround provides ample heat supplemented by underfloor heating. An eco extension with living roof is a later addition. The space The cottage itself is Grade II listed and consists of just one room with a crogloft. We don't believe the crogloft is suitable for very young children (please see photos). The downstairs bed is part screened from the lounge to afford limited privacy. The cottage is ideally suited for couples as there is only the one sofa in front of the Aga woodburner (and telly); really cosy on dark winter evenings. The eco extension comprises a well equipped kitchen, dining area and bathroom. All windows in the old part of the property have shutters, adding to the cosy feel on winter nights. Just a heads-up—the blinds don’t block out all the morning light, so early risers might feel right at home! The garden, a sun trap, houses many tropical plants and a treefern oasis. A passion of mine. Feel free to water them if on an extended stay... The cottage was shown on a map in 1851 but we don’t know when it was built. Originally known as Capel Elim (Elim Chapel) there is no record of it ever been used as a chapel. It is a typical Welsh character cottage. More photos on insta: pen_y_gamfa IMPORTANT: This is a traditional 200 year old Grade II listed Welsh cottage with a twist. If you are looking for clean straight lines then this really isn’t the place for you. This isn’t a sterile environment either, but a home with a heart and soul. We love welcoming well-behaved dogs to Pen y Gamfa, and while we do our very best to clean thoroughly after each stay, those with dog allergies should be aware that we can’t guarantee the cottage is completely free of pet hair. Please do read our guest comments most of whom have nailed it with their outstanding reviews. Thank you. Guest access Pedestrian access only. Park after the large chapel on left, in the lay-by, and walk back to the public footpath (1 minute walk) and that’s us at the end. Red gate - Pen y Gamfa. We regularly park opposite the sign that says ‘Gorffwysfa 1-6’ and in so doing our car is between two properties and is therefore unlikely to cause any obstruction. Regrettably parking is not permitted outside the Community Centre. Other things to note Please mind your head when leaving and entering the lounge. The number of times we have knocked our heads!! The patio is slate and can get slippery when wet. The crog loft isn't suitable for young children as the eaves are exposed and there's a risk of falling. Please see the photos. We have had to restrict occupancy to three persons I’m afraid. The cottage is ideally suited to a couple, with the bed in the crogloft ideal for one more person. We have mentioned it elsewhere but worth mentioning again. The toilet is a pumped system and it is imperative that sanitary waste, wet wipes and nappies are not flushed. Your cooperation in this regard is very much appreciated. Thank you. Please take care to secure sash windows using the bolts to avoid injury. There is a garage / shop 5 min walk from the cottage and a fab Chinese Takeaway opposite Stermat in Gaerwen. There are no pubs in the village. We highly recommend Llys Llewelyn Cegin Bar in Aberffraw (their Club Sandwich is amazing!) We change the Welsh blankets on the beds regularly; we have quite a collection. Please never attempt to wash. Thank you. We leave a big basket of logs which generally lasts a two night stay. Finally, please remember to return the keys to the keysafe on checkout. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we do when we stay at Pen y Gamfa. If you need anything please phone us.
