Description

Looking to get away to an off-grid island full of unspoiled jungle, miles of gulf coast beach and waters? Welcome to your island retreat. Walk throughout the sandy paths of one of the last remaining undeveloped coastal barrier islands in SW Florida. Nine miles of quiet beach known for shelling is only a 10 minute stroll. Eagles and Ospreys are sited daily. Shore birds abound. Gofer tortoises and reptiles are among the island residents. Enjoy kayaking and/or fishing at the bay, gulf or lagoon. The space Arrive on the island of Cayo Costa by private boat or water taxi where a 4-seater Club Car awaits to transport you to your island retreat with 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, open kitchen, dining & living area. The two twin beds in guest room converts to a queen size if needed. The great room is all open and sunny throughout the whole day. The kitchen is fully equipped with a solar powered refrigerator, propane gas powered stove-top, double sink, and a gas grill on the deck. From the living/dining area a set of steps leads you to the roof top for an amazing view of the entire island including a glimpse of the ocean especially at sunset and a spectacular view of the sunrise over the bay. See guidebook for more details on off-grid living. Guest access You will be getting around on the island either on foot or by Club Car on the sandy paths throughout the island. The Gulf Coast beach is 3/4 miles to the west and only 500 ft to the dock/bay. There are paths leading south to the south entry to the beach as well as north to the Cayo Costa State Park. Other things to note Cayo Costa State Park is accessible by foot through a gate off of one or two of paths that lead to the north end of the island. It is also accessible in low tide via the beach past the channel to the lagoon. With the daily park fee you can access the park's beach, bathrooms, and camp store where you can purchase souvenirs, ice cream, bags of ice, and when available, frozen bait shrimp in addition to other small snacks and essentials. No vehicles are allowed in the park. NOTE: The park is currently closed to overnight guests but am told that the beach and bathrooms are accessible.
