Cuilabhaila, Arran: sea front with stunning views
Description
Cuilabhaila, (‘Coola valla’) is Gaelic for "edge of the village", and is ideally located on the beach front in Lamlash. Built in 1896 the house offers spacious Victorian rooms with high ceilings, and original features. Warm yourself by the log stove after a swim, or sit in the conservatory to watch the seals. The large private back garden is ideal for relaxing but for the more energetic the house is within easy walking distance of the golf course, restaurants and the pier for an ice-cream. The space The house has been in the family since the 1980's and enjoyed as a family retreat since then. The family have a long connection with the island. The picture of the island in the sitting room was bought to celebrate an engagement on the island in the 1930's. The piano belonged to that couple. As such the house is eclectic in style and comfortable. Other things to note Kayaks - we would love to say yes to guests when they ask to borrow the kayaks stored in the back garden but we have to think of public liability. We are not insured, the life vests we have are ancient and haven't been tested, probably ever. Whilst for our own family that is fine on a flat calm day, it is not ok for anyone else. We would however highly recommend The Otter's Tail who operate out of Lamlash. It is run by Eleanor and Andy who are absolutely lovely and highly reviewed.
