Description
Wanderlusts "Bluebell Camp" is a completely off-grid Gypsy caravan retreat, set in Cumbrias Eden Valley, a secret gem of tranquility, linking the Lake District National Park with the North Pennines “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty". In perfect isolation, the camp is a 250m walk from its free roadside parking and comprises of two traditional bow top Gypsy caravans, a "cottage tent" kitchen, a covered fire pit, a dry compost toilet and the option of hiring our stream fed, wood fired hot tubs! The space —-It has been described as being “more like tramping than glamping”(in the most romantic sense of the word) but please do contact us before booking for a better understanding. Shabby chic but leaning more towards the shabby than the chic.. At The Bluebell Camp, I’ve tried to create a self contained site, so that if you really want to "get away from it all", there is no real need to leave, but if that's not your plan, there is 1km walk along a green lane that leads to Melmerby, where there is a village pub, The Sheapherds Inn which serves great food and drink, there's the Village bakery, tea room and boutique which also stocks some basic supplies. There is a toy shop, selling hand made wooden toys and there is also a swimming pool and sauna available for private hire. . Guest access The camp lies approximately 250m walk up through a lovely young woodland and along an ancient green lane from the roadside parking area. It’s set in a 4.5 acre site where I live off grid and operate Wanderlusts Gypsy Caravans Horsedrawn holidays as well as the two retreats, The Blackthorn Camp and The Bluebell Camp. We are just 25 mins drive from Ullswater and the Lake District National Park, but without all the mayhem of traffic. We are situated on the edge of the North Pennines AONB and the fells can be accessed on foot or mountain bike if youre keen, along green lanes and tracks , only crossing one road. we are just off the coast to coast cycle route too, at the bottom of Hartside Pass. If travelling by public transport, train, you can take the West Coast line to Penrith, or the Settle Carlisle line to Langwathby or Lazonby. There is a very limited bus service to Melmerby, or Gamblesby so much easier to take a taxi from the station. Other things to note The base price is for one wagon and the Bluebell Camp facilities, but you can add up to two extra wagons (£35pn), and/or your own tent/s (£15pn) Hire the hottub? We now have a choice of two The large round 6 person cedar tub And the 2 person Swedish tub Please let me know in advance if you’d like to hire our stream fed, wood fired hot tub during your stay as it takes some time to empty, clean, refill and get up to temperature. Once hot it maintains its heat quite well so if you want it for more than one night, it’s much quicker to heat back up next day, meaning you have the use of it all day too if you want. Cedar Tub £65p/n Swedish Tub £35p/n Both subject to availability. Firewood is available for sale on site for the fire pit, stoves, and hottub for £10 a bag. (I sell this at cost price or possibly slightly less than what I pay for it but feel free to bring your own if you have it) We can also sometimes offer horse and cart day trips to Long Meg stone circle, but please note that this is only available when our horses aren't being used for the "horse drawn holidays" we also offer. please contact us to discuss details.
