Covey's Cabin

An authentic Colorado experience 15 minutes from downtown Durango. Covey's Cabin is a tiny home, located at La Ponderosa, a multi cabin property equipped with many outdoor amenities! A barbecue, an outdoor fire pit, a lit up recreation area and a hot tub are all part of the experience! Seasonally, we have an organic vegetable garden and outdoor yard games as well! Cookie and Kareem, our mini donkey and fainting goat, are here to welcome you! The space The property has a ton of history! It's located just down the road from the historic Florida Church and is a part of the original Hood homestead in the mid 1800s. As mentioned before, Covey's Cabin is located on the La Ponderosa estate, that has another Airbnb rental located on it. The cabin is truly a tiny cabin and is really meant for people passing through town! Covey’s Cabin has been totally renovated with new beetle kill pine ceilings , white wash painted wood walls, a new kitchenette and a basic living space with a new 32” TV. There is a full sized bed in loft and a sleeper couch if the guest prefers it. FYI, the lofted bed is in a tight space and those that are 6’0 or taller, it will be a squeeze to fit normally in the bed so he/she may to opt to sleep on sleeper couch for more leg room. Also, the bed is lofted about 7' above the ground with no guardrail. The fully remodeled private bathroom sits separately from the cabin, approximately 5 ft. from the front door, but has the same privacy that any bath would. This cabin is quaint and fun but very small, so please be aware there is very limited space for luggage and extra belongings. Guests will have full access to the hot tub, outdoor living area and the entire outdoor amenities. The Utah Buff flagstone back patio and outdoor living area is an awesome place to hang out with a multitude of outdoor activities! The outdoor recreational area includes a hot tub , yard games area (corn hole and horseshoes provided), frisbee golf hole with three separate pads at 20/30/40 yard distances, multiple hammocks, lounging chairs, bbq grill and two picnic tables. FYI throwing discs are not provided. The outdoor landscape is vast with Colorado wild flowers throughout, two vegetable gardens and an herb garden! We are a 5 minute drive from Horse Gulch, a renowned area to hike and bike, and 30 minutes from Vallecito and Lemon reservoirs and 40 minutes to Purgatory. As pictured, we have Cookie, the mini-donkey, Kareem, the fainting goat and three chickens who all live in the far south section of the property. All the animals are very sweet and one of a kind and are here to welcome you! As a new addition to the La Ponderosa experience, we offer many different options for guests. Private parties for small gatherings for less than 50 people (inquire for pricing) Other things to note We have unique animals and eco systems and therefore untrained and or aggressive dogs are not welcome here. Sorry! The cabin’s water and waste resources are very sensitive and we kindly asks guests to be mindful of this for all water and waste. We kindly ask guests to take quick showers and when using toilet we ask guests to use the yellow mellow method as we are in a septic system. This property is very unique and is designed to create authentic experiences for all guests but that doesn’t come easy! Livestock, a vast gardening system, three cabins , a hot tub, two raised decks, outdoor games and more ! It is normal to have someone working on the property’s landscape or maintenance any given day on the compound for the property demands a ton of attention, however, rest assured, the cabins are all completely private.
