Description

Beautiful C18th stone Bastide, 35 mins from the sea, atop a hill affording uninterrupted views of The Massif des Maures, surrounding the Gulf of Saint Tropez. The garden is full of dry stone terraces, olive and fig trees, thyme, lavender, rosemary, and mature shrubs. The Bastide is close to the medieval villages of Les Arcs, Tourtour ("the village in the sky"), Sillans-La-Cascade (waterfalls and rock pools), Lorgues (one of Provence's most popular markets), Draguignan, and The Gorge Du Verdon. The space This beautiful natural stone south-facing quintessential Bastide was built in the 1800s, in a private setting with panoramic views stretching 20 kilometers. It is a large family home (350sqm) that flows with positive energy, charm, and character. Over the years the house has been thoughtfully renovated to provide up to date living. The inside accommodation comprises: 6 double bedrooms all ensuite. Media room with 60-inch flat-screen television (Sky, Amazon Prime, and Netflix included). Large open plan kitchen/dining room, table (seats 12) - Loggia dining table (seats 12). The second terrace has additional seating for 8/10. Fridge, Freezer, Smeg oven, kitchenware utensils are supplied. Ancilliary kitchen - dishwasher, fridge-storage cupboards. Large sitting room (salon) with open fire. Wine cellar. Two separate lavatories on the ground floor and first floor. Utillity room with an LG 21kg washing machine. WiFi throughout. Outside there is a one-hectare Provencal garden (planted with fig trees, lavender, and thyme), with stone terracing and 120 olive trees. Heated swimming pool (55sqm), 12 sunbeds, two loggias (for shade), a BBQ kitchen, a pool table, a table tennis table, a petanque court, and car parking for six or seven cars. Family run, The Bastide sits on a hill in the heart of the Provence wine-growing terroir. 35km (22 miles) from the Mediterranean Sea (Sainte-Maxime), it is surrounded by many well-known villages, vineyards, and famous Chateaux such as Abbey Thoronet, the former Cistercian Abbey nearby. Draguignan (5km away) has all the charms of a typical Provencal town and various museums worth visiting. There's a TGV station outside the medieval village of Les Arcs Sur Argens (10km) with direct services to Paris, Marseilles, and Nice. Two of the prettiest medieval towns in Provence are close by; Flayosc (7km) and Lorgues (10km). Both are genuine tributes to Provence and have a diversity of great bars and good restaurants. Lorgues has the most beautiful and largest market in the region where at least a hundred farmers and artisans flock each Tuesday to sell their fruit and vegetables, charcuterie, cheeses, flowers, textiles, leather goods, and much more. There are a myriad of delightful bars and cafes where you can sit on a terrace, sip a glass of good local wine, and watch the world go by. The ancient villages of Entrecasteaux, Chateaudouble (with its dramatic setting overlooking the Nartuny Gorges). Aups and Bargemon (classified as France's most beautiful village) are all within easy reach. The beautiful village of La Garde-Freinet is visible in the distance, the gateway to the Gulf of Saint Tropez. From there it's easy to explore Grimaud, the medieval villages of Gassin, Ramatuelle, and La Croix-Valmer. Saint Tropez will likely be a highlight of your stay but be sure to visit Sainte-Maxime which is relaxed and quieter. It is an hour's drive to Hyeres for a short boat ride to Les Iles d'Hyeres. These islands including the Isle de Porquerolles are a stunning day out. A wide range of leisure activities are located nearby (here are just some): - Sailing (Saint Tropez & Sainte-Maxime) - Golf & Spa ( Flayosc & La Motte) - Horse Riding (Les Arcs, Chateaudouble, Draguignan, Vidauban) - Tennis courts (Flayosc & Lorgues) - Waterskiing, Wakeboarding, Kayaking (Les Arcs) - Cliff diving (Sillans-La Cascade & Verdon) - Hiking trails (29 from Maures and Esterel Massifs to Verdun Gorges) - Climbing (Ampus, Chateaudouble & Le Muy) - Bike Trails (Flayosc, La Motte & Vidauban) - Water Park - ideal for children (Vidauban) Please read my guide on this portal to find further information for your vacation here.
