Description

This beautiful holiday cottage is an architectural gem and a very special romantic retreat for couples only. Cae Mab Dafydd is tucked away on a Victorian estate which is situated at the edge of the village of Llanfairfechan on the spectacular North Wales coast. The space Surrounding this lovely holiday cottage is a huge, beautiful garden with features that include rather grand stone bridges, a mountain stream that runs through it, terraces and soaring giant redwood trees. And if you want to explore further, keep walking into the private fifty-acre woodland beyond and you'll discover all sorts of delights, from a medieval folly to an ornamental pond. Keep walking up the hillside and you'll come out onto the Carneddau mountains, with incredible views over the coast and forests below. This truly is a walkers' paradise straight from the door. If you do ever want to leave Cae Mab Dafydd, sandy Llanfairfechan beach is less than a ten-minute drive, the whole of Snowdonia is on your doorstep and the island of Anglesey is just fifteen minutes away. The Wales coastal path wends its way along the coast here from Bangor, passing the Morfa Madryn Nature Reserve at Abergwyngregyn and onto the Glan y Mor Elias and onto the promenade at Llanfairfechan. The beach here is sandy and popular with families and water sports enthusiasts alike. Once you decide to return to this peaceful holiday cottage to rest your weary legs you'll find a spacious and welcoming Hideaway from which to plan the next day's adventures. Step into the cosy drawing room where you'll find a large wood-burning stove and comfortable armchairs in which to relax with a book or perhaps get out the chess table for a game or two. There is a well-equipped utility room beyond, perfect for storing and sorting outdoor gear. Through the drawing-room and into the central lobby you'll find a shower room, a separate bathroom and a beautiful king size bedroom. Opposite this, is a large dressing room with a wardrobe, chest of drawers and a day bed. Continue on and you'll find the welcoming, airy living area with a very well equipped kitchen, dining area and sitting area with sofa and chairs. Vaulted ceilings and windows to three sides of this large room add to the feeling of space. Doors lead out to the veranda and balcony which wraps around the cottage, providing a sheltered vantage point to enjoy views over the gardens. The sense of space and privacy at Cae Mab Dafydd combined with luxurious touches such as fluffy bathrobes and extra towels make this a perfect romantic retreat any time of the year. The village of Llanfairfechan is a short drive away where you will find well-stocked Co-op and Nisa (plus Post Office) stores, an excellent local butcher and a super little zero-waste shop. There are three cafes - The Seagrass Beach Cafe, the Beach Pavillion and The Riverside Cafe (the Seagrass also offers an evening service at the weekend). There is also a good Fish and Chip shop and Chinese and Indian takeaways. All useful options should you prefer not to cook. Further afield, to the west lies Abergwyngregyn home to the Aber Falls Distillery and to the beautiful cascading Aber Falls. To the east lies Conwy, a medieval walled town with a superb castle built for Edward I in just four years between 1283 and 1287. A little further on is the Victorian town of Llandudno and the Great Orme. The Conwy Valley runs inland from Conwy and is home to Bodnant Garden, a must for any horticultural enthusiast, the Welsh Food Centre and Zip World Fforest. And with Anglesey being within easy reach and the whole of Snowdonia on your doorstep, this is perhaps the perfect location and base from which to explore North Wales.
