Guest suite in Saltspring Island
Description
Take it easy at this rather... unique getaway. Your senses shall be assaulted! By plants and art. There are excessive quantities of them throughout the house. There are also excessive quantities of them on the balcony (well, just the plants currently). Most of the year you will be serenaded by frogs and crickets in the evening. And occasionally by a yowling cat... Great place for creation, contemplation, and relaxation. Very pet friendly. Bring your fur/feather/scale/shell babies. The space A plant filled mecca, located on a quiet and hilly acreage. Very private. The suite has its own entrance, a foyer, open concept living/dining/kitchen, full bathroom, and bright bedroom. Walk up a few wooden steps to gain access to the house. If you weren't a plant person before... you probably won't be after- but there are an awful lot of them! Bright and green (with excessive greenery), the open concept living room/dining/kitchen is nice and... well, open. The kitchen table is expandable and extra chairs are scattered throughout the unit. There is a throne from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina to help you feel more stately and noble. George, the Benjamina ficus, dominates the corner of the unit- I dare say he is an imposing sort. The kitchen is well appointed with a variety of cooking implements, spices, and oils (because food is life). If there is a particular gadget or contraption you are looking for, please ask. The bathroom has a full bath tub (sorry, it isn't deep enough for those with long limbs to pretend they are a submarine), extendable shower head, a water saving commode, sink, and excessive quantities of towels. Come for the shark punching and octopus massaging, stay for the fluffiness. Yes, there are plants. There are also crayons for doodling on the shower wall. Because... adulting? Your sleeping area contains a queen bed with duvet. More plants. A secretary desk full of books on local trails, parks, studios, maps, and even foraging! Shockingly, there is also stationary- in case you decided you needed to do some work while visiting, or just needed to sit and look pensive. And some... unique art. There are adjustable thermostats in each room of the house, electric baseboard heaters, HEPA fans if you require, and a super amazing portable A/C unit (which saves me from dying in the summer- I imagine it'll save you too). Guest access A mere 15 minutes from Long Harbour, Ganges, and Vesuvius- access is simple. Drive/cycle/walk up the gravel driveway. There is lots of parking (and you can store bicycles under the covered patio). You will require some reversing skills to turn your vehicle around (although not as badly as Austin Powers). There are two entrances to the house, yours is the main entrance at the top, up a few wooden steps and you shall be in your own private space right away. There is a public bus system on the island, the closest stop is a 20 minute walk from the house (for those interested in not bringing transportation beyond their feet). Other things to note Frogs. They do tend to visit during the warmer months. Even inside the house! They sometimes like to nestle into the house plants, and come in through open windows/doors. Allergies. I have several indoor HEPA fans. There is always one in the bedroom and I can put an industrial one in the living room, if you would like. Pollen is a very real thing out here. The heating is baseboard, so no forced air to bother your nasal passages. I also vacuum/mop/dust/wipe/wash everything, including the ceilings and walls, quite often. Kittens!!!! My kitty of 20 years recently died- so I have replaced her fluffiness with not one, or two, but three kittens! They stay in the downstairs with me, unless you would like them to come for visits- in which case, please let me know! Megatron (solid black with a sneaky stripey pattern, only seen at certain angles) is a professional biscuit maker, will drool heavily when petted, and a complete cuddle slut! He will come to you when you're eating food- please do not give him human foods as they are bad for him. He may also try to suckle or groom you, which is a bit odd when it is your elbow. Frankenfurther (black and white) puts the cat in catastrophe! She likes to play with everything and crawl under the blankets. Sibling to Megatron, if you make prolonged eye contact with her, she will bound towards you and trill. She loves to play with everything, even the non toy things! Beware, she has a foot fetish and will smell your socks and shoes! You might also hear her growling when she is playing with a toy. She is very serious about her play time. Pazuzu (tortoiseshell Maine Coon) is the most chill cat. She is instant friends with everyone she meets. A teeny elephant, she likes looking out the window, snuggling with everybody, and catching spicy sky raisins on the balcony. She is also a shoulder cat and likes to surprise you by climbing up your back when you least suspect it. Because that is how you get to shoulders, dontchaknow?
