Red Roof Cottage

A charming stone built tin-roofed former highland shepherd's cottage surrounded by farmland with rural views to the sea on the horizon. This newly restored cottage is full of history and unique charm. Warm up by the fire in winter and rest in the cosy bedrooms in the eaves after some Highlands adventure. (**Please see separate notes below on the steep stairs and restricted head height before booking**) The space Red Roof cottage is a genuinely old and characterful space. It was fully renovated during the summer of 2021, and is pleasant and comfortable throughout. It is, however, still an old cottage built of wood and stone located on a farm, and it therefore has some wonky angles, rough corners, and eccentricities. The cottage is heated primarily by portable electric radiators in each room. It can be cold on arrival, but once heated is cosy and warm even in winter. (**Please see separate notes below on the steep stairs and restricted head height before booking**) Downstairs: The sitting room features a working open fireplace, with two armchairs and a sofa which converts into double futon. In the kitchen there is a dining table for 6, a washer/dryer, electric oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, and all you will need to cook and eat comfortably. The bathroom, accessed from the kitchen downstairs, has a bath with shower over, toilet, sink, and electric towel warmer. Upstairs: One bedroom has two twin beds and a chest of drawers. The other has a double bed, built in wardrobe, low shelves and a small cabinet. Above the entrance hall is a small mezzanine ideal for storing suitcases. Garden: A large lawn extends from the house down towards the farm, with views to the valley and the sea on the horizon. Guest access Guests have the whole property to themselves, including the cottage and the large garden and woodland surrounding it. Other things to note The stairs are very steep and the treads are extremely narrow - much narrower than normal stairs. Guests must use the handrails and exercise caution when climbing up and down the stairs. Unfortunately, the stairs mean the property is not suitable for people with mobility constraints or for those with young children who are concerned about their safety on stairs. The head height upstairs is very restricted - an adult can stand in the centre of the rooms, but the sloping eaves mean it is necessary to duck in order to move around the beds.
