We operate a little bit differently than at the typical hotel in a big city. We are very excited to host you and we wish we could be there for you during your stay, but as most of you know staffing has been an issue everywhere since Covid. It takes a little getting used to, but we have embraced the fact that we are completely a self-check in hotel. If you are familiar with the Airbnb model, we operate much like that. We want to keep our prices affordable and allow you access without one of us here. This helps keep our costs down. What “Self Check-In” means is we send you an email just before your stay with Check-In instructions. In these instructions we will have your code for the front entry and a code for your room. There will also be a few house rules, where to park, quiet times, where to eat, etc. Don’t get me wrong, we would love to be here to chat about the hotel and its rich history, but at this time we must make a sacrifice to continue to keep the doors open. We are proud to say that we are on the National Register of Historic Places. We acquired this beautiful building as-is during the pandemic. She is over 125 years old and still standing like she did after a rebuild in 1896 after a fire. With that being said, it is true we DO NOT have an elevator. This is one of those things that have been preserved by being a National Historic Building. All our rooms are located on the second and third floors. They are tastefully decorated, some with clawfoot tubs and showers and a few with just walk in showers, tasteful wallpaper, real hardwood wainscoting and moldings. We pride ourselves in maintaining clean and comfortable rooms, an inviting atmosphere, and a few modern amenities. (wifi, mini fridge/microwave, roku tv’s, a coffee bar on second floor with grab and go breakfast items, Keurig with pods) Being over 125 years old, you know that her bones are shifting and creaking. We do our best to maintain all aspects of our hotel but sometimes things can happen unexpectedly. A burnt-out light bulb, the fridge decided to quit, or you sprung a leak in the shower. Please be kind and give us a call or drop us a message and we will do the best we can to fix it right away. Just remember how you feel after a hard day’s work. Our hotel gets a little tired too sometimes. For our guests staying, we have a binder in each room. It talks about the history of the building, where to go to grab a bite to eat or a drink nearby, our house rules and an emergency number for our guests staying in the hotel should a situation arise. The Grant House is not perfect and does have a few quirks which we have come to accept. We hope you will love her as much as we do. Best Regards, The entire team of Superior Stays
