A) FIRST FLOOR: The first floor consists of two 300sq ft AC bedrooms that share one state-of-the-art large bathroom. Each bedroom has a large veranda attached. You can enjoy the large terrace on the same floor to have your morning tea or evening adda (conversations). The fragrance of guloncho flowers overlooking the terrace will leave an everlasting aroma in you. We have equipped the first floor with a pantry-cum-kitchenette for your dining, tea as well as basic heating/cooking. Each bedroom has a large four-post bed and adequate seating arrangement for conversation/adda. We have kept a refurbished chest of drawers or wooden almirah in each bedroom to keep your clothes. One of the bedrooms has a dedicated workspace. B) GROUND FLOOR: It has a 300sqft AC bedroom with an ensuite state-of-the-art large bathroom and a large veranda attached. It has a sizeable four-post bed and an adequate seating arrangement for conversation/adda. You will find a refurbished wooden almirah in the bedroom to keep your clothes. It also has a dedicated workspace. The dining space outside the bedroom takes care of all your meals. GARDEN: We have a 4500sq ft garden with mango, litchi, guava trees, and a treehouse to keep kids occupied for hours. WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT PARUL - 1. HERITAGE - The house has a rich history that crosses continents and finds mention in global and local media for the family that grew up here and made their way to the top echelons in academia. 2. ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN - You will have the bragging rights to say that you stayed in a house whose veranda and wall design pattern match with those at the Uttarayan Complex built by Tagore. The villa is located in Gurupally, the original area where all the faculty of the university stayed since the early 1900s. Each space in Parul is created to give you a cozy and elegant atmosphere that is an integral part of the ethos of Rabindranath Tagore. 3. SMALL THINGS MATTER - We didn't stop at giving you ample plug points in each bedroom but made sure each socket fits with international plugs. We put bathroom fittings that you see in 5-star hotels and also made sure that you get ample water pressure in the shower and taps. We refurbished each piece of furniture to its original finish and each painting was carefully chosen to complement the room decor. Each piece of furniture, lights, each accessory has been refurbished or handpicked to keep the spirit of Shantiniketan alive. We also supported local artisans to create handmade tiles that you can see in various house parts. 4. OPENNESS - The openness of the entire villa is unique to Shantiniketan's way of living. Large verandas, terrace, gardens would help you go back to your childhood days. The rooms are intentionally devoid of too many distractions to ensure free-flowing conversations for hours. The living room can accommodate 9-10 guests for adda. The attached balcony overlooks the 4000sq ft garden where you can choose to continue your conversation while watching over your kids chasing butterflies and squirrels around the lawn. 5. LOCATION - The house is located in the sanctum sanctorum of Shantiniketan (called the "ashram" area) in Gurupally. The neighborhood consists of every place created by Tagore (Tagore's museum - Uttarayan, Kachhghor, Chhatim tola, Patha Bhavan, Ghanta Ghor, Natya Ghor) is within walking distance. ATM, vegetable stores, and the resident local handicraft market are also a short walk away. To visit Deer Park, Amartya Sen's house, or attend the weekend Mela (fair), you would need a 5-10min Toto ride. Guest access We have ample parking space for 2 large cars inside the premises. Since the house is 200mts from the main road, all kinds of transport are available easily. The Toto stand is 30mts away and we can help arrange a full-day Toto as well (at an additional charge based on actuals). We highly recommend walking around the neighborhood especially during mornings and afternoons! We can also provide you with a list of restaurants that offer delicious Bengali cuisine as well as hidden gems that offer handmade stuff created by local artisans Other things to note While they would take utmost care of your needs, do remember that this is a HOME and not a hotel. STAIRCASE ALERT- To reach the first floor, you need to take a flight of stairs. WIFI/INTERNET - The internet speed 50mbps. Zoom calls possible from everywhere in the premises CARETAKER - The caretaker of the house stays on the property and is a call away. The host stays in the neighborhood and will help you at all times if you need anything. Our caretakers are part of our family. Please treat them with the same respect and gratitude. KITCHEN USE - Not available to guests for cooking purpose. However, 24X7 use of the refrigerator, and the RO water purifier (gives you zero stress on the quality of water you drink). You can use the pantry area (first floor) for heating food/milk in the microwave or even use the electric hot plate. We have caretaker who can cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for you at additional cost. DRIVER/MAID SERVANTS - Drivers or maid-servants are strictly NOT allowed to stay overnight on-premises. If you are bringing a driver, maid please let us know in advance. We will give you contact details of multiple hotels within 200-400m distance where they can stay for a nominal cost (400-700rs per night). AIRPORT SHUTTLE - We can help arrange for an airport shuttle in case you are coming from Kolkata airport (at additional cost as actuals). We can also arrange for a Toto to pick you up from Bolpur station if you are coming by train (at additional cost as actuals). ELECTRICITY - We don't have electricity back-up. It's not common to have long electricity breaks but we do see 5-10mins "load-shedding" every few days.
